No voodoo and evil souls this time around. Instead it's an abused Asian worker messing with code after being fired, but before he commits suicide by jumping from some height. To heighten the danger, Chucky is made by a massive corporation, think Microsoft or Samsung, so their products are everywhere and Chucky can interact with them all.
Who is this movie for? The lead character is a little kid. Several other characters are his kid friends. The end is like Goonies with murder and gore. Point being, who is the audience supposed to relate to?
That being said, it didn't completely suck. The pacing was really nice, and everyone involved does a good job.
Aubrey Plaza also has a nice body...unless they used a double. She's not nude, but pretty close.
The concept of the movie is flawed because this is a doll killing folks. They were very smart to make him able to link into other devices. That really does a great job of adding to it. However, the kids being the stars, imho, hurts the appeal of the movie.
IMDB has it at 5.8, and I think that's fair. A solid 6 out of 10 seems perfect.
Really good effort by all involved.
Oh, and stick around for the end credits for some extra creep in a bit of singing. Someone associated with the film was a huge Batman video game fan, and well, the opportunity was right there, so...
