The "all-right all-right all-right" guy plays a confederate deserter who decided he didn't want to die for rich people. Fair enough.
But he goes back home and starts dealing with an oppressive confederate military government, and ends up forming a full-on revolt until they control most of southeast Mississippi.
But that isn't what the movie is about... there's a weird sub-plot that is inter-spread through the movie, about one of his descendants 85 years later, still living under Jim Crow.
It's an interesting movie, supposedly based on reality, and I watched it with my kid so he could get a sense of how shitty people can be, sometimes.
