After the Dark

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

After the Dark

Yay Amazon Prime!

The description on Amazon:
"Faced with an impending nuclear apocalypse, a group of twenty college students must determine which ten would take shelter underground and reboot the human race. The decision quickly becomes deadly as each group turns against each other in a desperate fight for survival."

Sounds good or at least interesting. The problem is that whole description is a lie. There is no impending nuclear apocalypse, they are high school students, the decision doesn't turn deadly, and there's no desperate fight for survival.

Here's the description on IMDB:
"At an international school in Jakarta, a philosophy teacher challenges his class of twenty graduating seniors to choose which ten of them would take shelter underground and reboot the human race in the event of a nuclear apocalypse."

Let's get this out of the way first, Sophie Lowe is crazy hot in this movie. She's the best part of the movie. Katie Findlay is no slouch either. James D'Arcy is the teacher and does a fine job. There's also some girl from Harry Potter in this, but I've never seen those films.

The acting is fine. Good actually. The problem is the script is shit. It has a good premise, but you'll figure out almost immediately one of the key plot details. Additionally, it makes weird jumps from classroom to scenario where you watch them live out their choices. The film's biggest sin is that it breaks its own rules. The writer also clearly doesn't understand global thermonuclear war and what it would do to the planet. Ignorance or lack of research? Either is a sin.

Sad when good acting and a potentially interesting premise are wasted.

Skip it.
