The "I can't take joy from anything" attitude reminded me of malcolm.

I wasn't in town. Haven't seen it yet. I'd love nothing better than a Star Wars movie since the '80s that isn't beat out by the games X-Wing, TIE Fighter, or KotOR.

You make that sound like a problem.

Good film.

Best SW film ever? Nah, but the darkest since Empire for certain.

Awesome cameos! Some I'll bet people missed.

Indeed. One of the main reasons Star Wars was such a success in it's time was that it was a fun and exciting space opera coming out after years of grim future sci-fi movies. This one is doing the same thing in that it is a grim sci-fi war movie with a strong focus on story and characters coming out after years of stupid action sci-fi films. It's doing the same thing by being completely different, and it's just as much a breath of fresh air.

I wouldn't say best, but I do think it's right up there with the others, specifically because of how it's bucking the trend.

I notice there is a pretty good split between people who did notice the cgi faces, and those who didn't. I wonder if there is something to it. Some screens slightly out of focus, making the cgi a little softer? Some eyeballs sharper than others? Maybe a difference in the way our brains are wired to perceive visual stimulation?

I think it may be people who spent their life around a lot of tech or those who notice tiny details.

Darker film, but very good. The entire time I was watching this and comparing it to the last film I kept thinking that JJ Abrams is an intellectually lazy hack.

Gordo, on the question of the people that noticed the cgi faces and the ones that didn't, were the ones that noticed more weighted with gamers? To me they looked like well done video games.

That's a really good question. Are gamers more likely to spot that stuff because we see it all the time?

That would be my guess. While non gamers might note something seems off (my wife did), they might not be able to place it. The wife wasn't sure if they were using old footage or something, but it didn't fit for her. Oddly, the voice seemed more off for her than the image (she loves the old classic horror films).

The soundalike was pretty good but I think he relied way too heavily on Cushing in Ep IV and completely skipped everything else.
