As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

I honestly keep wondering how long they'll let this disaster keep going until someone finally steps in and says, "STOP! Let's start over and do this right."

Iron Man 3 was NOT good to average. At the end it actually got cringe-worthy with Pepper. The only saving grace of the film was RDJr's interactions with the kid.

So we'll agree to disagree on that film, but the rest of the point remains.

Marvel's run is unprecedented. Almost every movie is a critical and financial success and every other studio is scrambling to create their own shared universes.

I think we can all agree that if they do a Howard the Duck and it's a critical and financial success then we've gone beyond it being anything that Disney and Marvel are doing and we can chalk it up to strictly fanboy devotion.

First of all, they tried once and it bombed.

Secondly, fan boys can only buy so many tickets, ask DC. Further proof is in ratings for Agents of SHIELD, ticket sales for the Hulk movies ($132-134M each, which is way below Marvel standards), the aforementioned Howard the Duck bomb, comparing book sales vs movie tickets, etc.

The Marvel movies WILL start to slip, but I think that happens in the next wave, so post Infinity War. That's when they're going to start pushing Black Panther, Dr Strange, etc. over Cap, Iron Man, etc.

It's hard to imagine a universe in which a live action Howard the Duck is not a flop.

Animated maybe, but not live action.

I had the same thought when I heard about the movie with the talking raccoon. I think it is somewhere in one of these threads when I was expressing a lot of doubt.

From now on, I give these guys the benefit of the Talking Raccoon.

Howard the Duck wasn't a space pirate.

If the talking raccoon was wearing an ugly suit and drinking a martini like Howard does I don't think it would have worked. Too cartoony no matter how real the cgi looks.

Although if they completely redefine the character then maybe.

Yeah, this. I really thought GotG would be dumb based on what I heard about it.

Unless the guy that killed the killer was only killing another killer in a long line of killers.

So the moral of the story is... if you're going to make the world a better place, you can't stop at one.

More info.
That leads us to the biggest crowd-pleaser moment of the trailer, which shows Aquaman riding off of the Batmobile. Batman appears to be the straightman of the Justice League, with wilder characters like Aquaman and The Flash providing humor to match his over-serious tone. But he gets a good line in the trailer as well, when The Flash asks him what his superpower is, and he deadpans, "I'm rich."
Is he trying to be a worse Batman than George Clooney on purpose or is it accidental?

First trailer and no hint of the boy scout? It's no secret he's returning. Wonder if that'll be in the final trailer or if they're saving it for the movie?

DC makes good trailers. If only they could hire someone who makes good movies to go with them they might have something.

I never realized how many trailers are cut by outside agencies. A friend of mine worked for a trailer making company, and the amount of discretion they had was unbelievable to me.

The latest commercial for the movie "Life" appears to show the fate of everyone who was in the trailer, and even what happens in the end.

Gordon has long hated trailers that give away too much. He's not wrong. We talk a lot about The Sixth Sense and how I ruined the movie for him based on watching the trailer.

While watching Logan I was actively thinking about scenes from the trailers I hadn't seen yet. I had also correctly guessed who Logan was burying in the trailer based of who was and wasn't in the scene with him.

Trailer are a necessary evil, but they need to figure out a better way to hide important plot points.

I think, as a filmmaker, I'd declare: "Here's your one trailer and that's all you're getting. You know the story, what the genre is, who's in it, etc. I don't want to ruin the movie for you by showing you more. Come let us tell you a story where you don't know what happens."

3 months of significant reshoots over the summer.

They can try to positively spin this all they want, but anyone with a brain can see through the lies. JL was a mess and Snyder isn't the guy who should be helming DC movies. Especially now that Wonder Woman has come and is a hit BECAUSE IT COPIES THE MARVEL STYLE. (Something the morons running WB wanted to avoid. Remember the "no humor" rule?) Three months isn't standard reshoots. Entire movies are shot in three months.
