Star Wars: Ep VIII - probably a rip-off of Ep V

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

One of my friends, and massive Star Wars geek, saw it last night and has been strangely quiet since. No FB post praising or condemning the film. I'm guessing he fell somewhere between happiness and disappointment. Critics are loving it, but I've been concerned ever since the rumor/speculation came out about Luke going to the dark side. That would be the worst plot twist they could add. Unless Rey was a Skywalker, it would completely negate the previous 7 films.

I'll find out tomorrow.

Bucky Barnes wants to play middle aged dad bod Luke.

I don't know how they don't make this movie. He's like a clone of Hamill.

I'm glad to say that the spoilers deliberately threw you off the real story.

Entertaining and beautiful film, but if I'm being honest, it wasn't well written and seemed to go against the previous 7 movies.

Still, I'll give 9 a chance because there's nothing that happened that can't be "corrected".

Since 9 will be another Abrams film, if you can't fix it with lens flare, it won't be corrected.

Yeah, I was kind of wondering about that. It didn't seem like the reactions I was reading online were matching up very well with what the critics were saying.

Edit: The critics seem to be going with the line "Disney is taking the franchise in a different direction" while the public comments seem more they are just running at breakneck speeds in random directions. I think people were willing to give Disney the benefit of the doubt concerning the plot of the last movie with the sincere hope that they knew what story they were wanting to tell and some of it would start to come together with this movie.

But it still made almost $500M worldwide.

I'm trying to figure out if I would have liked this better if it had non been a Star Wars movie.

I don't need a new star wars movie to perfectly match the style and tone of what came before.

There's an argument to be made that the story seems to veer from the movie that came right before, but it isn't done yet, either, and I won't get my panties in a bunch over that, yet.

This is fair.

However, it's also fair to point out how different the tone was, how certain story lines that people talked about for YEARS resulted in massive silent farts, how the humor was really forced and not organic, the WTF? science behind that Leia scene (you know the one), and how Jedi went from bad ass warriors to gods...
