Netflix

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

I'd much rather see everyone start switching to reasonably-priced per Gig usage rates with no caps. You pay for what you use, and if you use more you pay more, but no one is trying to ass-rape you with the prices. Sort of like Ting does with cell service.

Right now what we have is the equivalent of getting "unlimited" electricity every month for a single price fee, but near the end of the month they start randomly turning off your appliances if you used too much electricity that month. It's a real pain in the ass.

Ha! I wish.

Totally off topic, but how much healthier would the economy be if corporations were focused on good service and a reasonable profit versus every cent of profit at the expense of jobs and service?

Much better off, and also better off for those companies as well. The best long-term business plan is to do exactly that: good honest reliable service for a fair and reasonable price. But as employment cycles have shortened up no one is around for the long-term approach anymore. So now it's all about the short-term money grab while you are still the CEO of the company so you can get a nice bonus before you leave for the next one, leaving behind a company that is worse off for having cannibalized any good will it had with customers.

I think the nomadic management problem is going to end up being a fad. Once the turmoil of transitioning from a industrial/service economy to a digital economy settles out I expect management will trend back towards a long-term position that will better serve long-term approaches like being a well-run company that does right by their customers.

Netflix Live is their April Fool's Day joke. Will Arnett riffing over "live" video of random shit like someone parking a car, people thumb wrestling, a copier, someone reading, etc.

It's 48 minutes long. I watched the first 3 minutes and then FFed through the rest. There's two cameos. (Do the math on when they appear...) One is a famous movie star who has a Netflix deal and the other was worth scanning through this thing for me because I loved Stranger Things.

I'm hearing people are pissed about the thumbs up/thumbs down ratings system. Netflix CS folks are encouraging people to call and complain.

I need at least 5 selections: good, not good, bad, not bad, wtf. The up/down just doesn't do it.

I actually called to complain about the thumbs. They're the worst thing about Netflix.

You can't rate movies by thumbs up/thumbs down. You can recommend them that way, but not rate them.

You're essentially saying "I didn't hate watching that" is the same as "This was my favorite movie ever".

Why not copy IMDB's 10 point system or RT's 100% points system? It makes more sense, gives people more flexibility in choices, helps Netflix finding matching movies, and they could tie in those RT or IMDB ratings, like Apple has done in their store.

The system they HAD was just fine.

I heard they changed it because of Amy Shumer, and her Netflix show getting 1-star reviewed.

America really got sick of her shit, and I was right there ahead of the curve.

I would have to see your sources on that. However, I did wonder if they did this as a way to falsely raise the overall satisfaction of their content.

Anyway, call and complain like their CS people have asked. Only way this goes bye bye is if enough people do so.

This article mentions her at the end.

That darned alt-right!

I'm surprised she didn't blame the russians for influencing the rankings, too.

This goes out of its way to SPECULATE that OF COURSE it isn't Shumer's fault, but near the end goes on to explain that it certainly did behoove Netflix to change it and give Shumer's show a better rating.

This one claims that Shumer took to the internet to say that the alt-right was "actively organizing trolls" against her.

I am pretty sure that is officially a diagnosable paranoia... "they are out to get me."

So I'm done now. Not hard to Google a couple hundred more links. Yeah, lots of people are putting it on Amy Shumer.

Hilarious. I'll start blaming her too and telling people to Google it.

I enjoyed how the executive at Netflix says more people will give feedback on movies now. Meanwhile, I haven't rated a single movie since they put the new system in place. I don't feel it's a fair system and since I'm a human with more emotions than "love" and "hate" I refuse to participate.

Purchased Millarworld.

This is a pretty big deal. The IPs to really watch are Kingsman, Kick-Ass, Superior, and Nemesis.

Nemesis is Batman except evil.

Interesting. I always wondered how good their deals with Marvel were. This implies they wanted a bigger piece of the pie.

I think the Marvel (actually Disney) deal helped prove this would work.

These are different though. These are super hero stories with twists. Should be interesting.
