Doctor Who (The one that started in 2005)

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

I think it'll be interesting to see how this pans out. I know the series has taken a hit with the last Doctor. Also been reading that the writing hasn't been very great during that run either. Wife and I watched a couple of episodes with the old guy and after the move just never picked up on the series again. Going with a woman Doctor could probably be pulled off, but on the heels of a declining couple of years smells more of desperation than inspiration.

The new Doctor was *ok,* but in fairness, these regeneration episodes are spotty. Takes time for a new Doctor to find her feet, sometimes.

The episode itself was ... Ok. Better production values than before, if nothing else.

I.cant stop looking at the new Sonic screwdriver and thinking the curved bit would hit the g-spot JUST right... But I know if I said that anywhere else, I would be super misogynistic. But it's a fucking vibrator. Very obviously. But we're going to pretend it isn't.

And in the "pre-show.party," they kept interviewing women, obviously their prime audience. "What is regeneration?" The host asks. The excited woman answers, "That's when a doctor dies, and he gets a new body."

And that went on tv. Not encouraging for the new showrunners.

I don't watch the show, so had to google it. But what is wrong with the answer? Per a Dr Who wiki, that seems accurate.

The use of the gendered term, I assume. Doctor has always been a male body, until now, when (s)he is a woman.

He is acceptable as a gender neutral term. It doesn't exclusively mean male.

The Timelords (and sometime others) regenerate. The Doctor is an individual Timelord.

I meant how specific the answer was to a specific individual.

Ahh. That seems like you are getting nit picky. What was the context. "The doctor went through regeneration. What is regeneration?" "It's when the doctor gets a new body." I dunno. Maybe the specification came from the conversation leading up to the question?

The context was exactly how I phrased it. "What is regeneration?" The only thing more cringey would have been if the woman said, "Regeneration is when a doctor who dies and then...."

Curved, for her pleasure.

Not far from "The Doctor"... is that her real name? Does she have a name?

It's a trigger among fans that her name is NOT Doctor Who. Yes, she has a name, but no one knows it.

This is basic stuff, among actual fans. It even gets jokingly addressed within the show, from time to time.

"Are you a doctor?"

"No my dear, I am THE Doctor. The definite article, you might say."

Anyway, last year they introduced a female Doctor, and that's fine. Nobody in this house cared, and we went in excited for a new season.

All buzz for the show was 100%, n spite of my kid noticing a sever reduction in the quality of the writing by the new showrunner, something-Chibnall. All I knew of the guy is that he previously wrote a couple really mediocre episodes, in previous seasons.

Well, the show sucked. I thought the actress playing the Doctor was fine, but the show was now way over-the-top with SJW preaching. Critics were rating it 100% of Rotten Tomatoes, because of course they were... but the fans were really backlashing over the shitty showrunner.

Welp, the new season just started, apparently. Personally, no longer care. We didn't even finish the back half of the last season, because it sucked. And reviews have been so bad, with the same complaints, that for some reason RT cleared all early reviews, and reset the 30% audience rating. Now, it has an 82% critics rating, and a 7% viewers rating.

It will 100% be blamed on misogyny. "The stories suck, it's too preachy, and there's no cohesion to the storylines."

"You just hate women!!!"

We stopped watching last season because the new showrunner FUCKING SUCKED and the stories were now super boring, and super SJW.

My understanding is that this year, amidst plummeting ratings, the showrunner decided that the first Doctor wasn't the first Doctor any more, that there were actually another 12 (or something) who came before him who were all women of color. The fans still watching are blasting the BBC for allowing the showrunner to destroy the story, canon, and the show in general. These people are dismissed as crying white men.

As ratings plummet.

Doctor Who is dead.
