Game of Thrones  *SPOILERS* - For the nights dark and full of SPOILERS

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

“Every record been destroyed or falsified, books rewritten, pictures repainted, statues, street building renamed, every date altered. The process is continuing day by day. History stops. Nothing exists except endless present in which the Party is right.”

HBO chief defends season 8.
They were very, very deliberate. This was well thought out.”
I hope that's not true, because if it is, you're simply proving that they're terrible writers.

I think it was deliberate. And it was bad.

I'm not sure if I should feel bad for the writers, or not. What they did with S8 won't soon stop being a punchline. Sometimes your vision is your vision.... but they got paid a lot of money, and had a lot of time to get it right. Dunno.

Started a rewatch with my son.......................

There are plenty o' awkward scenes, but he seems to take them well.

Anyway, going through Season 1 for the first time in like 10 years, and knowing how it ends, and who was doing what.... it was super obvious Littlefinger was manipulating from the beginning. It was well done that I didn't notice it the first time, when everyone assumed the Lannisters did it.

I have only watched the first episode. Wife and I wanted to pick up the entire series once they finished it. Question for folks... has anyone read the books? Does the series follow the books pretty well up until they ran out of source material?

Season 1 follows the first book dead in. The next few seasons are.close to the books ... The last two seasons went past the books, and the last season was a disaster.

But IMO, the books aren't very good.

That is interesting. I have heard lots of praise for them over the years, and I have always wondered if it was hyperbole.

Martin jumps all over the place in the timeline, IIRC. Long stretches of boring. Not a fan of that. Also, the Iron Islands feature more prominently in the book storyline, and I don't like them, either.

I'm starting to see a parallel between this and SW. Where we have one faction that can craft a story but not tell it, and another that can tell a story but not craft it.

8th season of GoT.... egads. I can't believe Martin was going to end things like that. They just didn't even try to wrap up a good story.

ASOIAF started with an interesting (if shallow) idea: let's re-write the Wars of the Roses in a sword-and-sorcery fantasy-land. Then...GRRM got Stephen King's disease. He was successful, so there's no more editing.

Oh and also he's rich now so fuck even bothering to finish amirite?

Similar with the TV show. The first season or two were watchable, since they were based on decent if not awesome source material. The last few have been stupid.

That's become my new standard I tell my wife when we find a new TV show we like. I hope they cancel it before it gets stupid.
