It's a natural cycle. I think we have a couple of decades of The Black Hole to look forward to at this point.

I loved that movie. I even had the book and the record. But maybe 5 year old me wasn't that discriminating.

I think at that point after the success of Pixar, Disney decided they needed to trust the people they hired because they hired them for their vision. After 20 years of good stuff coming from them, they're starting to believe their own press and think the name "Disney" at the bottom was what made these films great.

Disney has been the shining example of buying established properties and then backing the fuck off and letting the folks who made it continue their work.

I'm not saying you're wrong here, but Wheadon is making a single movie in the Marvel universe. Wheadon's bitching here is equal to an electrician complaining about requirements the engineers designing a skyscrapper are asking of him on a specific floor. He's looking through a prism of his film, and not ALL the films.

End of the day, Wheadon isn't the guy behind Marvel films' success, that's Kevin Feige. Feige is trying to fit Avengers 2 into a larger story, so maybe Wheadon should scale back his ego a bit and understand it's not just about him. I'm a Wheadon fan, but his whole pity party and temper tantrum he's publicly throwing is kind of pathetic.

Also, the word "Disney" is being thrown around pretty casually as if the Marvel guys have been a part of Disney since forever. The Marvel guys haven't been around long enough to have worked on Black Hole...

I loved that movie.

Ditto. I still remember walking to the mall with my best friend at the time and seeing it. We had the whole theater to ourselves (that movie bombed).

Like I said, go back and read what they almost did with Toy Story. That was when they began their path of not screwing stuff up. They became that shining example in the last 20 years. And to be fair, they became that example because they had almost no new properties being made internally.

I also loved The Black Hole as a kid. And also have seen a chunk of it as an adult. That was a really bad movie.

It's pretty much how I remembered it, maybe just slightly slower and the sfx don't really hold up. Still pretty dark with what happens to the crew, and the evil red satan robot.

Don't. A few years back, I watched Robin Hood: Men in Tights. I remember that thing being awesome when it came out. The awesomeness did not hold up over time.

It has always been my ambition never to do a director’s cut of anything, and always to make the movie with the studio that we both want to make. Ultron was very complex. There was a lot of back-and-forth. My instinct is no. Just as an artist, I’m super f*king lazy and that sounds like it would be hard. I don’t think there’s interest in it, right now.

Or maybe he's a talentless hack.

He’s made no secret about how difficult it was to film both of the Avengers movies, and more than even being lazy, it likely means he doesn’t want to have to put himself through that again.

Yet again, putting the blame on everyone except himself. Sounds suspiciously like that Alien movie he fucked up.

Have a studio give me a few months to write a script, a paycheck for it, a couple million in the budget, and we'll see what happens.

EDIT: Wow, Joss is bitching about a studio "butchering" his alleged masterpieces. I wonder where I've heard that before.

Whedon has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the released versions of the films Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Titan A.E. and Alien: Resurrection.

Here's Joss's take on a Batman screenplay of his that, due to benevolent cinematic deities, never saw the light of day.

Whedon also pitched a screenplay to adapt Batman for the same company as development started on what would eventually become Batman Begins. It was described as having included a new, "more of a 'Hannibal Lector' type" villain, and portrayed Bruce Wayne as "a morbid, death-obsessed kid" whose grief was overcome by protecting a girl from being bullied in an alley similar to where his parents were murdered.

That's what Batman needs. More teen angst and goth overtones.

He also think womb envy is a thing, which is as fucking stupid as Freud's preoccupation with all things phallic.

He wrote, "[Womb envy is] entirely true. How else to explain the fact that cultures who would die to eradicate each other have always agreed on one issue? That every popular religion puts restrictions on women's behavior that are practically untenable? That the act of being a free, attractive, self-assertive woman is punishable by torture and death?"

Assume gender guilt much?
