House of Cards

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Couldn't find a thread for this, but maybe I missed it. Anyway.

Watching the first season. A few notes:
1. Why can't Kevin Spacey do a real South Carolina accent? He can do some pretty good impressions.
2. Ep 3, there's a scene in a small town Southern Protestant Church. Damn, if that ain't the integrated-est small town Southern Protestant Church I ever see.

This show is solid. My wife wouldn't like it because there are 0 likable main characters, but as long as you have no problem with that, it's pretty good. Good acting, good plot, good dialogue, good pacing, etc.

Spacey's character (quoting from memory) is a government official "You got all the money, but we've got the guys with guns."

Truth.

You're supposed to agree with my observations.

Two episodes left of season one and I like it muchly. Enough that I'm now paying for Netflix. Not actually using it to watch since I can't get it to work properly with XBMC, so I'm still watching illicit versions. But hey.

No likeable characters? You don't like Underwood? I mean sure he's a bit of a son-of-a-bitch, but he's a like-able one so far IMO. Zoe is nice - if naive - but like-able.

Hell, surely you must at least like Doug Stamper, Frank's chief of staff? He hasn't screwed anyone that I can recall.

Yeah... about Stamper... :)

At any rate... My wife's version of likable is people she would actually like in real life. Good people, people who want to do good things. Frank is kinda the opposite of that. Sure, I enjoy the characters, I really like the show, but the people are not IRL likable, imho.

Uh oh, I guess I posted too soon. I'll be finishing the season tonight, and into season two. Maybe I'll change my mind about Stamper...

I'd be happy to have a beer with most of these characters (or ribs with Frank), but I wouldn't want to marry any of them. Just how likeable do they have to be?

Well. I was okay with Underwood for season one. I mean he's a calculating S.O.B. but he's not evil. EDIT: Well, mostly, excepting the obvious.

I just started season two. Now I see why your wife wouldn't like him.

Weezer parody

The intro may be my favorite part. Spoilers if you have not been watching the show.

As awesome as seasons 1 and 2 were... season 3 was nearly that disappointing. Nothing fucking happened the whole damned season.

Watch seasons 1 and 2, then stop.

Maybe it's a setup for some epic season 4 stuff... but it was just slow and painful.

I'm positive Gordon will watch season 6 now.

Just check out the headline to the article. And yes, I checked, that line is in the trailer.

"It's what America wants."
“Every record been destroyed or falsified, books rewritten, pictures repainted, statues, street building renamed, every date altered. The process is continuing day by day. History stops. Nothing exists except endless present in which the Party is right.”

House of Cards

I can forgive them taking a world view to promote a plotline or even ride the wave of anti-men whatever. I cannot forgive them for making such a boring show the past few seasons.
