The Hobbit
The more I think about this flick (even after 2 viewings), it's disappointing in more than a couple ways. I'm giving it a C- currently, when the anti-handicap is adjusted.

They finished up with Orlando Bloom on the set, and then they did this:

I'm tempted to wait on the next movies until they all hit DVD and I can see it all at once.
I did that with the first trilogy, and will do so again.
“Every record been destroyed or falsified, books rewritten, pictures repainted, statues, street building renamed, every date altered. The process is continuing day by day. History stops. Nothing exists except endless present in which the Party is right.”
Saw the second movie tonight.
I am trying to think of a single thing that happened in this movie between Beorn's house and Laketown that was a faithful interpretation of the book. I can't think of a single thing that wasn't changed, and lots of things were added.

I don't remember Bard being ... the way he was and I don't remember Beorn being that straightforward.

Both of those things are correct.
some spoiler discussion follows I suppose.
Laketown in the book wasn't a mess the way it was in the movie. They were doing fine as a community. The dwarves were met with joy... prophecies foretold the king under the mountain would return, and gold would flow from the mountain again. Peeps were excited. The mayor was a little corrupt in the book, but wasn't murderous with his own version of Grima Wormtongue lite.
In the book it took a week to get from Laketown to the mountain. In the movie it was noon in the town and they had til sundown to find the secret door... and they would show the landscape and you'd think, "Yeah, they're donna need a few days just to traverse the foothills." But no. I can't see any reason they couldn't say, "We have 3 days to find the door before Durin's Day, so let's get a move on."
There was just no reason for a shitload of the changes they made.

These movies suck but here's a trailer for the 3rd one.
Still looks pretty shitty.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let's not get nuts. If it turns out the One Ring is really just a surface for microscopic lifeforms to produce spores and live on, and those spores are putting all the ideas into the heads of the wearers, then we'll talk.GORDON wrote:I just reread this thread... Well why not? The movies so far have completely deviated from the book. The person or people who turned the book into a screenplay had no idea what the fucking point was, so why not change the nature of the ring?Malcolm wrote:Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let's not get nuts.
