I went ahead and signed up for the local chain's "Movie Club."
So it's $8.99 monthly recurring, and I get 1 free ticket per month, and additional tickets for $8. At the box office adult tickets are $10.50, and at the local Costco the tickets cost about $8.66.
I just bought tickets online for a rescreening of The Dark Tower. I got my ticket free, and my kid's for $8. We'll get snacks while we're there, it's 7pm on a school night, so fuck it, why not. We'll save 20% on those.
SO yeah, it paid for itself as soon as I bought the club. As long as I hit at least one movie per month, I'm good.
Also, even if I don't hit a movie every month, my free ticket carries over to the next month. I bet they eventually change that.

Stealth TOS edit coming, soon.I didn’t imagine that the app would be tracking your location before you even left your home, and then follow you while you drive back or head out for a drink afterwards. Did you?
It sure isn’t in the company’s privacy policy, which in relation to location tracking discloses only a “single request” when selecting a theater, which will “only be used as a means to develop, improve, and personalize the service.” Which part of development requires them to track you before and after you see the movie?

I assume ANY app that uses the location permission is tracking you. I normally deny that, and turn it off after use when an app requires it.

Got an email from Moviepass the other day:
So, he was just kidding and he's sorry.Dear MoviePass Members, Partners and Employees:
While speaking at a conference in Los Angeles, through a mix of exuberance about our future and joking around, I mischaracterized how MoviePass locates our members and I need to fix that. It has raised a lot of concerns and I understand why.

Moviepass may die, but they've already been a disrupter I think. Wanting to say that AMC offers their own version now.

AMC's version only applies to AMC theatres, costs more, and limits the # of movies you can see. There's definitely room for a product here, but moviepass' was terrible. Additionally, AMC actually gets $$$ from concessions on these people, whereas moviepass did not.

I've got the Cinemark plan. Def pays for itself, especially since if you don't use your monthly allotment of free tickets, they carry forward. Its a good deal, but at least felt realistic compared to that movie pass.

Moviepass 250x reverse split
Helios and Matheson, which owns the popular movie subscription service MoviePass, was trading at an all-time high of nearly $39 per share last October. That's around when the company announced that it was dropping the cost of MoviePass to $10 a month.
Since then, analysts have worried about the company's sustainability when the price of its flagship product is so low.
The price of the service has helped the company attract at least 3 million subscribers. But the stock price has also plunged 99%.

It never seemed like a good deal to me, when i.will want to watch one good movie a few times, not every bad movie once.

Maybe that cap wasn't adjusted for the 250 reverse split. Yahoo says $1.348MM
Stock at $0.80... somehow still has a market cap of $750MMMoviePass' financial and technical problems keep getting worse. According to a Business Insider source, company chief Mitch Lowe not only told staffers that the service wouldn't offer tickets for the next two major movie releases this summer (Christopher Robin and The Meg), but hinted that this would be the policy for other movies in the near future. Some viewers couldn't order tickets for Mission: Impossible - Fallout this past weekend, for that matter. A spokesperson wouldn't directly comment on the report, but did point to an open letter from Lowe that said "certain movies may not always be available in every theater."

Market cap (capitalization) means: How much $ would you have to pay at the current stock price to buy the entire company. It says the stock market values this company very little. Especially compared to companies like Apple who are nearing $1 Trillion for market cap.
