TV - Buffy the Vampire Slayer

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

3 episodes left in Season 6 thoughts:
-Once More with Feeling was amazing.
-Normal Again was great until that ending. WTF was that? I hate that shit. Same type of shit Burton pulled with the Planet of the Apes remake.
-The season was really, really hokey with lots of relationship stuff and the main villains sucking. Then shit got dark. Warren just went apeshit. He and his group were a joke throughout the season until he just became a legit threat as a scared punk.
-Spike's been up and down for me. I've enjoyed him for the most part, but the scene with Buffy in her bathroom was...off.

I'm guessing both he and Xander make appearances in Angel, which I'm going through at the same time. Guess I'll know tomorrow night when I watch the corresponding DVD of Angel Season 3.

Just started watching. On episode 4 or so.

This is horrible. Really? I feel like I'm watching 1960's Star Trek. Acting is horrible. Costumes? Really? Action, choreography VERY subpar.

Not impressed.

Yeah, season one isn't going to blow you away. If you're interested in watching the show, you have to survive season one and push yourself into season 2 where things are stepped up a bit.

Season 2 is where I remember becoming more interested in the characters.

Here's what I said a long time ago:
So I finished Season 2 yesterday. Huge improvement over Season 1.

Also, you need to remember that you're watching a show from 1997 with a small budget. A budget bump hits in season 2, but we're not talking major network budgets. It's like buying a house. Don't look at the paint, wallpaper, or anything that can be quickly removed or fixed. You've got to focus on the construction and the floor plan.

16 year old TV shows aren't going to have state of the art effects.

If you don't like it by the end of season 2, you won't like it.

Also, IIRC, season 1 was a half season. Get through it and see what happens in S2.

Gordo, I know you were interested in TPBs that continued Buffy into a "Season 9", and just noticed today that issue #1 of Season 10 is hitting shelves.

I forget where I left off... definitely own season 8, possibly season 9, as well. Between them and the Angel ones, I forget. Soon I will have my bookshelves up and will pull everything out of the storage bins and can see where I am.

I realized I never actually got through Buffy or Angel.

Without having to skim all the pages of this thread can someone quickly give me the order I should watch the seasons? I know at some point there's an overlap where Angel started and Buffy was still going.

Thanks in advance.

They aired at the same time, so in theory you'd have to watch one episode of one show and then one of the other to get them all in order. But that's too much effort.

There may be a perfect watching order out there somewhere ... http://buffyfest.blogspot.com/2009/04/b ... guide.html

Personally I watched them season for season at the time and didn't feel like I'd lost anything from it. Much easier than switching after every episode.

Thanks, when I start them I'll consult that.

For some reason my viewing of Buffy and Angel stopped at some point. Recently I began watched Buffy again and plan to finish the series this time. (In graphic novels, they go to Season 12.)

I'm midway through season 2...
-Nicolas Brendon is annoying as hell, particularly in S1. Just very unlikable. He's like a B horror movie version of Chandler from friends. Seriously, when watching this again picture Chandler in the same role.
-I forgot how hot Sarah Michelle Gellar was in this show.
-Angel's story is simply perfect for any female audience. If you've ever seen Big Mouth, you get it.
-I forgot how much I enjoyed the Spike and Drusilla dynamic.
-Effects still suck, and the show is clearly sanitized for TV, but there are heavy themes at play.

Season 2, Episode 15 "Phases"

Great call back to a previous episode in the opening scene.

Holy shit the werewolf hunter is a fucking pedophile. He makes a pro-pedophilia comment to Giles and Buffy in the woods.

"Hey, I'm not judging. Get 'em while they're fresh."

Later, he's a misogynist:

"This is what happens when a woman tries to do a man's job."

This episode is really well written though. First the call back, and then a great throw away scene that reveals everything, but it's so subtle you don't pay attention.

Also, wouldn't it make sense for CPS to take the kids away from every parent in this town? How many people have to die at one school before you move? What parents keep their kids in a community with such a high body count?

Still an amazing bit of TV.

"Once More With Feeling" is brilliant. I think S6.

Season 4 was ok. I had almost no recollection of it, so it's not memorable.

The whole story with Spike is uninspired. No way do they not just kill him. He's still evil and trying to kill them.

Anya is quietly becoming a favorite. Her outsider-looking-in breakdown of relationships are crazy on point.

Riley is lame, but I do love the line he gives Xander early in season 5: "I love her, but she doesn't love me."

The romance between Tara and Willow seems so forced. I think the biggest problem is how over the top Willow was with Oz, and how this thing with Tara just took place without anything on screen.

Michelle T. just showed up in the beginning of Season 5. Why was she brought in? I was crushing on her in Eurotrip.

What they're doing to Spike in season 5 is fucked up. Either kill him or accept him. Stop being cunts.

The episode with the death was pretty strong.
