February 27th, 2013 - Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland - no further information is available at this time.

Thank fucking Christ.

Their last album was so bad, I actually thought that Scott had cleaned up. Fucking wastoid of a heroin addict that can't even sing that well.

Velvet Revolver was good, but I think Slash controlled most of that.

Wow. I'm torn whether or not this is a major downgrade.

Scott Weiland IS STP. I quote the document:
"How do you expel a man from a band that he started, named, sang every lead on every song, wrote the lyrics, and was the face of for twenty years, and then try to grab the name and goodwill for yourselves," read Weiland's legal action. "You don't, but three of the instrumentalists from the band 'Stone Temple Pilots' tried

When three dudes that have been in that band with you since you recorded your first single decide you've become an unbearable prick, I think they've got reasons.

Without Weiland, the band ceases to be the same musical group...

Abso-fucking-lutely.

... that millions of fans recognize and love

Ah shit, you took it a step too far.

STP is now everyone except the heroin addict. They replaced him with Chester Bennington, whose scream-singing you may remember from Linkin Park. Checking them out one day after Reverend Horton Heat on the 25th of September. August and September are shaping up to be a couple of the best concert months in recent history.

Successfully missed the opening act. This joint is my least favourite venue in the cities. Fuck the Myth Live.

I've said for years that Scott Weiland's vocal abilities were entirely overrated and that anyone reasonably passable could take his place. This proved true because the dude from Linkin Park did a decent imitation up until the end, when he start getting screamy.

Update: one of his bandmates got arrested for coke possession. He may have crossed the thin white line.

Oh yeah, that OD was fatal. He used to shoot heroin with Courtney Love and I can only imagine what he did with Slash in Velvet Revolver. Bigtime snowman. Dude probably snorted the length of the tour bus in blow every night.

"Cocaine is a hell of a drug."
- Rick James, bitch

In June 2015, Weiland claimed that he had been off drugs for 13 years.

Means you have to go back to 2002 before he used...

In December 2007, Weiland was arrested and charged with DUI, his first arrest in over four years (since October 27, 2003). On February 7, 2008, Weiland checked into rehab
...
Weiland also admitted that he went through "a very short binge with coke" in late 2007.
...
In April 2015, footage from a show appeared online leaving fans to question the health of Weiland, who appeared in the video to be zoned out and giving a bizarre performance. A representative for Weiland responded stating that lack of sleep, several drinks and a faulty earpiece were to blame, not drugs.

Or not.

Scott never stopped. Ever. I saw Chris Cornell a couple months ago. Dude rode the h-train often back in the day. I'm pretty sure he's calmed down in his old age.

Scott's definition of "sober."
On Saturday, TMZ reported that a backstage rider obtained from Weiland's management team requested that there should be a bottle of Pinot and a bottle of organic vodka in his backstage dressing room.
...
The website also claimed that it had heard from some 'big musicians' that the musician had been 'drunk texting' them in the days leading up to his death.
...
Eyewitnesses told DailyMail.com that the former Stone Temple Pilots lead singer was drinking what appeared to be vodka in a bar attached to the Arcada Theatre in Elmwood before performing a concert there with band The Wildabouts on November 20.

'He was really spaced out,' said Scott Powers, 37, who was in The House Pub that night. 'He was definitely out of it.'

Ex writes open letter.
You might ask, "How were we to know? We read that he loved spending time with his children and that he'd been drug-free for years!" In reality, what you didn't want to acknowledge was a paranoid man who couldn't remember his own lyrics and who was only photographed with his children a handful of times in 15 years of fatherhood.

There are approximately zero people on the planet who thought Scott was off any drugs of any kind.

We read awful show reviews, watch videos of artists falling down, unable to recall their lyrics streaming on a teleprompter just a few feet away. And then we click "add to cart" because what actually belongs in a hospital is now considered art.

Because art is always clean, neat, and never worries or offends anyone.

The parts of the letter that resonate are the ones about him being a shitty father. It more or less confirms my conclusion about Weiland:

1) a good musician ... 4-5 albums of very respectable, occasionally rocking alternative tunes
2) a passable lyricist ... but no one gives a fuck about lyrics nowadays
3) a below average vocalist ... he had a few different styles he could break out, but his range and raw singing weren't anything special
4) a terrible human being, husband, and father

"Clean."
TMZ reports they’ve acquired a copy of the search warrant drafted to inspect Weiland’s bus and it details the substances in question. Along with two bags of white powder, which tested positive for cocaine (and briefly landed Weiland bassist Tommy Black in jail for possession), a generic version of Xanax, two different brands of sleeping pills, Viagra, Buprenorphine (a synthetic opiate painkiller) and Ziprasidone (used to treat bipolar disorder and schizophrenia) were all inside Scott’s bus. A bag of a green, leafy substance was also taken into evidence.

I'm going to guess that anti-anxiety meds, opiates, sleeping pills, coke, and booze don't mix. Also, pay attention to the Buprenorphine. It's one of the things they might prescribe to ween you off smack. Course, it's also used to treat depression, so it's not exactly a smoking gun.

Drugs, lots of drugs.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office said Friday that the 48-year-old Weiland had cocaine, ethanol and the amphetamine MDA in his system. The medical examiner also noted a history of cardiovascular disease, asthma and multi-substance dependence.

Coke, booze, and a hallucinogen to boot.
