Mann vs. Machine has completely changed everything, and makes the reason most people left (too many weapons differentiation blurring class lines) a moot point.
They lost me with the hats, various new weapons, in game store (or whatever), etc.
It seemed like balance had to go out the window in the name of microtransactions.
Instead of all the stupid bullshit that made the game inaccessible to new players and former players they should have focused on new maps, new ways to play, and a sequel.

I don't think they ever gave up on balance, but they did get a little carried away on the choices to the point where balance become annoyingly difficult to maintain. But on the bright side you can craft anything that you can buy, if you are patient enough. Unlike some F2P games where only money gets you some important things.
Anyway, they gave that a rest and instead spent time making new maps and new ways to play. And the fact that it's coop with no competition between players levels the playing field of weapon options.
Again, I'm not sure what the longevity will be on it, but it's well worth trying out if there was ever a point in time where you actually liked the game.

Borderlands is like sci-fi Diablo done FPS style, but it's primarily you and your teammates. Granted, AI bots aren't nearly as challenging as other people, but jacking up the difficulty to max seems preferable to the scenario outlined below.
The last time I had actual fun playing a FPS against other random people was Halo 2, and that was because there were four of us with spare time, around the same competency level, that worked well together. Hell, we didn't even have voice comms. We were kicking ass. Had a good sniper, an aggressive spearhead-type rusher, a sneaky bastard, and I was as deadly as anyone you could find dual wielding a SMG and revolver, in mid-air or otherwise. A couple of us could shotgun headblast sword-rushers in mid-stride. I can't tell you the number of kills I got just standing in front of sometime with an energy sword, daring them to come at me.
Then came the first weapons patch and we figured we all had to relearn out play styles. That's dangerously close to crossing the line from "game" to "chore" for me. On the flip side, the DLC in Borderlands contained the most fucking insane, intense PvM combat I can remember since I first laid hands on a Gravis Gamepad and played Doom. They had to handicap the players explicitly to make it interesting and it's completely artificial, but it's still a pain in the ass even if you're a maxed out, fully decked character.

Preordered along with Fallout: New Vegas: Ultimate Edition ($30) and Interplay's Fallout 3-Pack (Fallout 1, 2, BoS: Tactics, $20). Anticipating a hard-ass winter since last year's barely registered.

Had Roland, the turret dude, in the last one. He was support gold, but he wasn't the greatest for taking or absorbing damage. Thinking about the Gunzerker or the Assassin.

Here's a link to see the different skill trees of each charecter.
Whats cool about B2 is that each champ has 3 skill trees to chose from so in co-op if you had 2 Zero's playing at the same time then one could be a melee assassin, and the other one could be built as a sniper. SWEET...

I've read that Gearbox is keeping that hush for now. I've also read that if you preordered then she will be free when released, which is sometime in october i guess.

There's a new trailer out that's live action. It's pretty cool.

It's not the lack of fun, it's the lack of precision and control during gameplay. Keyboard + mouse beats any console control device I've ever seen.
