How on earth did they "Fix the lag?"

I had fun this summer playing eve practically as a full time job, but I just had to give it up. I certainly got to go out doing some of the craziest stuff I had done in game, leading 500+ people in fights against bob, but the dedication that it required just wasn't realistic for a normal working person.

I mean, I work all day, stop at the gym, and then have enough time to go home eat and watch TV or Read or Play a few rounds of TF2 before it's time to hit the sack and do it all over again.

Weekends are climbing or football or just enjoying doing nothing for a change.

Not sure where I could even hope to fit 3-4 hour long fleet fights in!

Funny to hear I'm still talked about though. What do they say?

I've only seen one hate post where they actually blame you for some of the woes. Don't remember who or what thread though. Mostly, it's about how all the good people got over worked and left. But when they do name names of 'the good people', you are one of the first to be named.

So, lots of love, and some people who can't/won't step up are blaming. Mostly love though.

Not much to come back to right now though. If you did. . . make a new character. :-) If Tas came back, you'd be foreced into a leadership role and expected to save the alliance. So, if you are up for being named ultimate ruler and king of Iron, now would be the perfect time. hehe On the other hand, if you want to run small roaming gangs and have random fun, change your name and voice on TS.

The ironic thing is, I think you'd have fun right now because we don't have a home. So, everything is invading other people's areas and killing stuff. Like we did from Badi. However, leadership wants us to base from a system that's 20+ jumps from Torr. With no logistical support at all. So, you lose a ship, and there's nothing to fly. You have to go back to empire. There's no market up there. Plus, we teamed up with another alliance that fields mostly t1 ships/gear and we are under attack by a much larger, full of t2 geared alliance. The old Iron, with numbers, would SMASH that allaince. But, no one will participate and stuff. Catch 22. No one will go, cause we aren't winning fights. We aren't winning fights, cause no one is there. Many people say, that if EVERYONE who's still active was up there, combined with the caracals that WI would field still isn't enough to take on GF. So, there simply is no point. Leadership keeps talking about stuff that we don't know about is about to happen. But nothing ever does. Then we lose systems. Then we move again. Repeating cycle.

There are contradicting posts going up constantly. We have the numbers to defeat GF and retake Dek, then others post we don't and we need to pull back to empire and regroup. Can't tell what is fact and what's not. Combined with empty promises of friends and other support coming to our aid that never shows. . . I dunno. My take on things right now is, leadership can't control Iron and that's probably affecting what the friendly alliances are doing. But, since we don't know what's going on at the leadership level. . . no one's following orders.

I've been reduced to camping the EC gate. Which is disobeying orders. Both alliance and corp at this point. However, the ONLY people that are active in my time zone are people camping EC. So, I can follow orders and sit in 1ix and do nothing, or I can disobey and camp EC and at least do something.

Ya. Things are a mess right now.

But, I'm confident that things are ripe for fun, for those that know the map, ships, and can step up to lead. People are BEGGING for a leader.

I'll have to think about it, but things are going pretty well right now, I'd hate to get pulled into another online game and screw anything up...

Certainly not for a month or two, at least.

Ya. That was more of a warning than anything else. If you come back, you'll be insta made supreme chancelor and stuff. Which, you would of course relinquish that power after the current situation was over. . .

But ya, people will be expecting and hoping for alot from you. So, if you make an appearance, be ready for that.

At the same time, just make it clear that you are going to FC and that's all. . . and you might be fine.

Oh, the other drama bomb was that URSO was kicked from MV or Pycorp or what ever corp he was in. He dumped a bunch of inside info to bob trying to out some of the Iron spies. The bob guy 'shootme' or something like that posted the log on coad.

Drama adds a level of fun to the game, in my opinion. Won't find this in TF2 or Bioshock. If you just want to get on and kill things. . . well, go play Quake!

I read maybe every sixth or seventh word of your story. I couldn't take anymore. There's a vast, vast, VAST chasm between Eve (soap opera) and Quake (twitchfest). The spectrum is not discrete; it is continuous.

This was posted by JFxSummoner in a recruitment thread on the Iron board:

You had asked what people are saying, and I saw this, so I thought I'd share.

Hey Troy.

I've actually had, and see more coming, some free time to actually play Eve. And I want to try FCing. I figure the corp is small and desperate enough that they'll take anyone at this point. . .

I've seen posts on target priority, etc. I want to learn the ships better though. So, when someone names off what's coming, I don't have to hit market, search for the ship, read it's attributes, etc. Is there a post/pdf/site that lists ships/attributes in a usable and study-able format? Or did you study by looking at the ships in market?

And then, how do you learn what can fight what? Like, I fly flycatchers alot. If I'm catching up to the gang and I run accross a crow, I think I can take it. Can I? What about an assult frig? I do fit web/scram now. So, I can hold them still, but do I have the DPS? Right now, I don't even stop for kestrals. My job is to bubble and stay alive. So, I don't worry about kills very often.

Lastly, how do you web, without getting webbed?

Almost makes me want to fire it up again, but this time with a character of higher intelligence so I can learn stupid stuff faster.

The focus of the expansion will be "true exploration", with players using new skills and modules to travel through wormholes into all-new, unconnected space. There they will find unique stellar phenomena and the resources and artefacts that will lead to the third level of technology in the game universe, Tech 3 - the first such update since Tech 2 was introduced back in 2004.

The star feature of Tech 3 will be modular, customisable ships. Instead of providing each faction with one or two new ships each, CCP will provide each with a template that comes in five sections, with five options in each. That's a total of 25 possible basic ships for each faction, with many more thousands of smaller modifications possible (7776 permutations possible, to be exact). This announcement was received rapturously by the Fanfest audience.

So, maybe in March when it comes out. We'll see what my schedule looks like around then.

Assuming it makes it out on time. Not that I've checked their track record for announcements and stuff. . . But anyway, who releases stuff on time?!

No clue. I just saw the ad and figured I'd pass along the info.

I think EVE sucks, but I know some folks play it.

IIRC, when the expansions first come out they are not free, just cheap. Later on they make each one free. But I could be misremembering.

I think that special is for new customers. Even on that page is says that Eve subscribers never have to pay for updates.
Free EVE Online expansions - You will never be charged for an EVE expansion - as the EVE universe grows, so do the benefits of your subscription.

I could be wrong though. That's just what/how I'm reading it.
