Top 50 Fast Food Items

Post by Leisher »

The Ringer did a top 50 fast food items list.

Bill Simmons (and Joe House) did a podcast on just this article and playfully mocked his millennial staff for the list. (It was even mentioned on another podcast with Jimmy Kimmel and Cousin Sal.)

"Any list like this with a french fry at the top has no credibility!" - Joe House

I could go on forever about this list, but (and this assume all food is fresh and hot):
1. Chick-Fil-A sandwich should be #1.
2. McDonald's fries are the best in the world.
3. Where the fuck is the Whopper?
4. The Filet-O-Fish should be higher. A fresh one is melt in your mouth delicious.
5. KFC coleslaw should be on the list.
6. Every non-savory item should be off the list. (Remove desserts and doughnuts.)

The fact that Whataburger only comes in at 37 and not even for their hamburger completely invalidates this list.

Those Auntie Anne pretzels are solid when they are fresh, but lately that seems harder and harder to come by.

I don't believe I've ever had Whataburger.

McDonald's fries are the shit. As described in the article, they're used as a comparison for other fries. That is the highest compliment. I have known people who claim not to enjoy receiving oral sex. I put your criticism of the McDonald's french fry in that same logic.

Frosty's suck. The ice cream Wendy's uses is not ice cream. Also, any blizzard or hurricane, or whatever they want to call it, where the toppings aren't also at the bottom, sucks.

5 Guys...I feel like I have to shower after I eat there. So much fucking grease.

I don't eat fries often. I would rather have Chick-Fil-A fries. Or Wendy's fries. Although, really, all fast food french fries are inferior. Give me nice thick 'steak' fries that are crispy.

Agreed. Although it's because what I want in a french fry is super-crispy in a dark mahogany brown color. Preferably those that have cooked themselves hollow, those are my favorites.

Those things used to be better than crack. Still quite good now, but they changed something or my taste buds moved on.

Agreed, but I think it's a staleness factor. My kid has a dairy allergy, so we have to customer order them, so they're always hot and fresh, and loads better than otherwise.

Also agree, not quite "hollow" but close, and crispy throughout.

Yeah, but that takes us off the list, and thus, non-fast food doesn't qualify.

Remember how bad Wendy's fries were back in the day? Ditto for BK whose fries still rank near the bottom.
My kid has a dairy allergy, so we have to customer order them
Off topic, but please explain. Is there dairy in their pretzels? How does ordering fresh get around that? Just curious.

In order to get the toppings to stick, they coat the pretzels in butter after they are cooked.

Fries are an inferior, filler fast food. They should not be on the list.

Most sweet items shouldn't be there either, though the Apple pie and (as noted already) Chickfila Coleslaw are good outliers.

Crunch Wrap Supreme > Cheesy Gordita Crunch. Both are good though. Overall needs more Tex Mex. How about fresh Guac from Chipotle?

I've decided Tex Mex is the culturally superior food and will eventually take over the globe. You should have seen the few "cantinas" we saw in New Zealand. They barely understand what to do with their avocados yet, but those places were still packed full of Kiwis paying $30 for fajita plates.

Just FYI, Chick-Fil-A discontinued their coleslaw.

If there's going to be an apple pie on there it should be Popeye's, not McDonald's. But even better is the Caramel Apple Empanada from Taco Bell which blows all fast food apple pies out of the water.

Oh, and Chipotle is a damn tragedy, it should be nowhere near such a list. There are so many better choices for everything they sell. Where available Freebirds World Burrito would be the #1 fast food choice in this category, but sadly it's not on the east coast yet.

On behalf of the state of Idaho, you go fuck yourself!

Fries belong on the list. They're savory and people do go to places specifically for them.

And this completely invalidates your opinions on food. Tex-Mex is the worst thing this country have ever produced and that list includes our politics, the New England Patriots, Malcolm, etc.

Realtalk. Mediocre Tater-tots are superior to all fries. All.

Long as they aren't soggy and moderately crispy.

End of the day, they are both still just shitty ways of eating carbs.

Give me two sandwiches and hold the pretend-vegetables.

They tend to be done very, very badly. They're the domestic pilsners of fried vegetable products.

This and your Tex-Mex thing is pure insanity. I do love a tot, but there's something special about a perfect french fry.

Bad fries are BAD. That's why the good ones are so good.

A lot like pizza. It amazes me how tolerant people are of shitty pizza.

There is no such thing as a good tater tot.

However all fast food hash browns are better than any fast food french fries.
