Things you put hot sauce on

Post by GORDON »

Today for lunch I was making leftover taco meat for a taco salad... I typically am generous with the taco sauce. Go to the fridge... nada. Go to the pantry... nada. I almost never run out of shit, but I ran out of taco sauce.

So instead I poured a bunch of Frank's Red Hot on my meat (don't get excited Leisher), and for just for a little more kick I gave it several shakes of Texas Pete.

I think I like that better than actual taco sauce.

Frank's red hot? Do you have men's hot sauce?

It's mild, but I go through several of the biggest bottles every year, of Franks alone. Also a few bottles of other brands every year. I drown shit, sometimes.

I have different sauces for different meals, though. On beef tips I like Texas Pete. On corn beef hash I like Tobasco. And I keep several different bottles of those "So hot not safe for humans," which I use for adding some kick to chili when the peppers I use don't get it done. I used to like Louisiana hot sauce on steaks, when you go to one of those "steak buffet" places where you get low quality meat.

So short answer, yes. I have a plethora of hot sauces.

I detest spice during morning hours, I don't know why. Everything I make besides soylent has at least Tabasco and crushed red paper.

Grow a cayanne pepper bush in a big pot on your patio. My kid picked out a couple this year to grow for fun... and FUCK they are pretty hot. Not habenaro hot, but hotter-than-jalepeno hot. Hot enough that the bugs won't touch them.... I have two large bushes of pristine, bright red peppers out there. I've been chopping them and mixing them into burgs, and cooking them whole on top of the meat when I grill a steak.... the hot molecules get into the air as I cut them, coat my larynx, and I can feel my chest filling with mucous to GET THAT SHIT OUT. My fingers usually still burn the next day.

Cayanne powder is for pussies. Real men go to the plant and get them fresh. Just don't rub your eyes or dick for an hour after you handle them, trust me.

I just recently started on a hot sauce journey. I'd been putting a little chipotle Tabasco (2,000shu) on everything for a while (especially breakfast). I noticed I was putting more and more and was getting to the point where it wasn't as satisfying as it used to be. So I bought a bunch of hot sauces of increasing heat levels (just over $100 worth; I got a bit carried away) and have started working my way up the charts.

Currently I'm on El Yucateco Chipotle Hot Sauce (3,400shu) and I've gotten to the point where I'm just pouring it on. It's time to move up a step. My current end goal is The Hot Ones Fiery Chipotle (15,600shu) but that's going to be awhile away yet. And of course there's a long way to go up from there. But I'm taking it slow because I like the heat, but not if it's all just pain.

For scale, Frank's Red Hot is 450shu and Texas Pete is 747shu.

Oh, by the way, there's an interesting interview show on YouTube called The Hot Ones (it's their sauce mentioned above) where they have 10 wings of increasing heat and they do interviews with people, one question one wing. It's an interesting show. Worth a watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3RUflwPlH8

Oh, as to what I will put hot sauce on it depends; what have you got? I'll put it on almost everything. Anything fried or involving meat for sure. Maybe not so much for desert items, but even then I'd consider it.

EDIT: Now I want to make a chipotle milk shake.

Today for breakfast I drowned a Whataburger honey butter chicken biscuit in Tabasco green sauce. It's not very hot, but the combination is one of the most delicious things I've ever put into my face hole.

I also used it as a salad dressing yesterday at lunch (combined with honey mustard) which was also tasty as hell.

I want to eat more food right now just to have things to put sauces on. In a few months I'll just stop eating food altogether and instead just drink hot sauces for nourishment.

I think it's impossible to put too much Tabasco sauce on your home fries or hash browns.

1-2 drops my ass.

Speaking of Tobasco, one of the smartest moves the US military ever made was to put a tiny bottle of Tobasco in every MRE.

Those look interesting. Mainly because the claims are about flavor rather than the heat.

So, check my original assertion. They have five hot sauces and one seasoning/rub.

LV 426 ... sounds hottest, site suggests "buffalo wings" hot
2-4-5 Trioxin ... sounds like standard tabasco

Zombie Poison ... heat and citrus
Plan 9 ... heat and sweet

Vyper ... green sauce, probably like tabasco mild

The Stuff ... suggested for rimming Bloody Mary cocktails

Tried a fingertip of Flashbang yesterday. Ridiculously hot, but had a good flavor. I didn't find out until after I tried it that it was made from ghost peppers.

I got the hiccups immediately after trying it.

These arrived today. That only leaves two to check out later on. Thinking of kicking off a new thread for this company. Damn things make perfect stocking stuffers.

Eat more hot red chili peppers.
The evidence base for the health effects of spice consumption is insufficient, with only one large population-based study and no reports from Europe or North America. Our objective was to analyze the association between consumption of hot red chili peppers and mortality, using a population-based prospective cohort from the National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey (NHANES) III, a representative sample of US noninstitutionalized adults, in which participants were surveyed from 1988 to 1994. The frequency of hot red chili pepper consumption was measured in 16,179 participants at least 18 years of age. Total and cause-specific mortality were the main outcome measures. During 273,877 person-years of follow-up (median 18.9 years), a total of 4,946 deaths were observed. Total mortality for participants who consumed hot red chili peppers was 21.6% compared to 33.6% for those who did not (absolute risk reduction of 12%; relative risk of 0.64). Adjusted for demographic, lifestyle, and clinical characteristics, the hazard ratio was 0.87 (P = 0.01; 95% Confidence Interval 0.77, 0.97). Consumption of hot red chili peppers was associated with a 13% reduction in the instantaneous hazard of death. Similar, but statistically nonsignificant trends were seen for deaths from vascular disease, but not from other causes. In this large population-based prospective study, the consumption of hot red chili pepper was associated with reduced mortality. Hot red chili peppers may be a beneficial component of the diet.
TL;DR => Consumption of hot red chili peppers was associated with a 13% reduction in the instantaneous hazard of death, so hot red chili peppers may be a beneficial component of the diet.

I've been growing 2 plants a year, I currently had a few vacuum-sealed packs of those peppers in the freezer for the various chilis I will make over the winter.

They are weird because the peppers grow straight up instead of hanging.

Vyper ... green sauce, probably like Tabasco mild
Ingredients: jalapenos, cider vinegar, sugar, salt

Texture: pretty thick

Heat: probably less than your hottest popper recipe. Suitable for all except the elderly, small children, and total pussies.

Flavour: solid, earthy taste.

I cracked open a frozen, vacuum-sealed 5-pack of cayannes tonight, diced one up, and smashed it into a couple hamburger patties. DAMN it was good. Got to get to the other 4 before they get freezer damaged.
