The new "foodies" forum.

Post by GORDON »

Thing is, I don't consider myself a foodie. And I never watch cooking shows, for no reason that I've ever thought about. I just don't. And I do not eat crazy exotic things like Boyle on Brooklyn 99. And so far fast food restaurant threads outnumber everything else, and I am about to start one for Taco Bell.

So I don't know, change the forum name? Or not. But I don't think it correctly describes the gastronomical abominations that will occur in here.

Aye. Something direct and generic.

Give Good Eats a try sometime. Alton Brown is amazing to watch doing his thing.

I think I watched one part of a cooking contest show one time.... they were making "chili." And you know what happened? It was bullshit. Fuckers getting all fancy schmancy with a single hunk of rando meat with a single dollop of rando sauce over it, "Hey look I made chili."

Fuck you.

Seconded. The way he uses his interludes for food science and history instead of sentimental bullshit makes it incredibly easy to learn from.

I know what you mean. Alton Brown won't do that to you. He gets it.

But avoid his run on Iron Chef until you get to know him. He's a good host there, but there's only so much he can do when the competitors go off the rails.

Exactly. He's as much chemist and physicist as he is chef. He cooks up some delicious science.

You might not label yourself a foodie, but you are a foodie.

So you don't watch the Food Network, who cares? You still pride yourself on your cooking. Take offense to bad cooking methods. Will argue what makes good BBQ. Etc.

You talk about food a LOT more than you realize.

Yeah, being on a diet makes me obsess about it. I love talking about food.
