Apparently, Ethiopia used to be 30% covered by trees. Now it's down to 4%.
So the environment can handle them. No idea what their plan is to maintain them.

Not necessarily. Sometimes when a Forrest is cut down, the soil.changes/erodes to the extent it can no longer support a Forrest.
I don't know why autocorrect is capitalizing that word.

I've changed my mind. Saplings need to be managed and watered. I predict fewer than .01% will be alive in 5 years. That was a gigantic waste of energy planting them all, and added to the CO2 problem.

Deforestation has almost stopped globally.
Thankfully Tabart’s claim was wrong and historically unprecedented poverty alleviation that has occurred in the last 50 years means that more countries are increasing their forest area. Yearly net deforestation is fast approaching zero and according to current trends, within the next couple of decades net afforestation will be the norm. This tremendous news is something to truly shout from the treetops.

Maybe. If these people think those 350M trees Ethiopia (?) planted the other day are permanent, then they're stupid, too. I think for empirical evidence, I'd need to see satellite imagery that illustrates that net forest loss is slowing, not just data that a sapling was planted to replace an old growth sequoia.

They're talking about measuring forest area, so it's not counting saplings. It would indicate some sort of aerial or satellite imagery.
