New vid of cops prepping to torture suspect.
The video lasts a few seconds and shows the van stopped a block away from the arrest site. Gray is halfway out of the wagon, his stomach flat on the floor, and his legs hanging off the back.

He does not move as four officers stand over him and place shackles around his ankles. Mosby said he also was put in disposable handcuffs.

New charges. Reckless endangerment.
In order to secure a conviction for reckless endangerment in Maryland, the government must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant either: (1) engaged in conduct that created a substantial risk of death or serious physical injury to another or (2) discharged a firearm from a motor vehicle in a manner that creates a substantial risk of death or serious physical injury to another.

Seems like an accurate description of behaviour that had a past record of resultant paralysis.

Baltimore cops claim they can't do their job because they're all depressed.
“Officers stopped being proactive,” the anonymous cop told CNN. “I believe it is the direct result of officers holding back.”

If by "proactive" you mean "chasing, arresting, and torturing people with no just cause," I guess so.

Gray was not belted in the van, only shackled by officers and thus “at risk for an unsupported fall during acceleration or deceleration of the van,” the report said.

Ah, yet again, the cops aren't evil, they're just incompetent.

According to the leaked report, the injury suffered by Gray was most likely caused when the van police were transporting him in suddenly decelerated, the Baltimore Sun reported.

Baltimore offers $6.4M to family for torturing their son to death during an unlawful arrest.
The payout would be the latest in a long line of settlements by Baltimore over allegations of police brutality. Since 2011, the city has paid a total of $5.7 million in police-related court judgments and settlements, according to the Baltimore Sun.

No systemic problems here.

Accepted.
The settlement does not resolve any factual disputes, and expressly does not constitute an admission of liability on the part of the city, its police department or any of the officers. The settlement has nothing whatsoever to do with the criminal proceedings, the press release said.

Trial will happen in Baltimore.
“We cannot have a single juror who’s not a taxpayer — every single juror will be paying that settlement,” Ivan Bates, the lawyer arguing on behalf of all six officers, told the judge. He added, “What that settlement says is, ‘These officers are guilty.’

But Judge Williams rejected the argument, saying that “the citizens of Baltimore are not monolithic, they think for themselves.”

Neurosurgeon says injuries were severe enough to guarantee death.
Porter said Gray’s health complaints were unspecific. Directly contradicting testimony from a police detective, Porter testified Gray never told him he could not breath during any of his repeated checks on the prisoner.

The defense on Thursday sought to dispel the suggestion that Gray’s requests for aid during the ride could have followed the type of trauma that killed him. Rather, neurosurgeon Matthew D. Ammerman said he believed Freddie Gray suffered a catastrophic injury that would have paralyzed him immediately and would likely not be survivable.

“Even with the best of medical care, the outcome is usually death,” Ammerman told the jury.

Awesome. Either the pig accused of murder is lying or the investigating pig is lying.

The blue wall of silence is down one brick.
In a huge blow for his defense, Maryland’s highest court ruled Officer William Porter must testify against all five of his co-defendants and that the remaining trials in the death of Freddie Gray can proceed.

Pig logic:
But Marc Zayon, Officer Nero’s defense lawyer, said the officers had reasonable suspicion to pursue and arrest Mr. Gray after he fled from officers for no apparent reason in West Baltimore’s downtrodden Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood.

“There’s no question that this is a high-crime area,” Mr. Zayon said. “There is no question that this is unprovoked flight.”
So depending on your particular geographic location, running from pigs means your fourth amendment rights no longer apply.

It's now legal in Baltimore for pigs to inexplicably pull up in vans with dead black dudes in them. What fucking bullshit.

I wonder how many Baltimore pigs it actually takes to get a suspect to holding alive. Looks like six isn't enough. Of course, I'd expect nothing less from union workers.

It's now legal to unlawfully stop, search, arrest, torture, and kill black people in Baltimore. But only if you're a pig. I guess it takes twenty or so of them to escort a suspect to holding alive.

In the 3 years since Freddie Gray's death, homicide has risen, and police action has fallen.

I remember in the late 80's through early 90's when the leaders of the black community where pressuring police departments to patrol their neighborhoods more due to the high crime rates. I guess in a way this has been a testament to their effectiveness. Or a testament to the activists ability to stir shit up.

Chicago residents ask for more police presence on the South Side. They get it. Black man gets shot, and they protest.
