Go do some research on lottery winners to see how money doesn't solve a poor man's problems.

Money is not the key to a happy life.

If anyone should have gone out naked and spanking it it would be Robin Williams. Preferably while also wearing a clown nose.

Some it really may be all about the money.

Does money provide a certain level of comfort? Certainly. Does it ensure happiness? No fucking way.

Money can't buy happiness. But if you have enough of it you can sure as hell rent it from time to time.

Explain that logic.

I think this is very much an issue of perspective. "Grass is greener" if you will.

I'm not implying that having money sucks, but it certainly isn't a magical cure all for everything, and brings with it new problems.

I'm making light of the whole "money buying happiness" thing. I've seen poor people that are happy and rich people that are happy. And unhappy members of both groups. I think unhappy people with money just find a different set of things to be unhappy about.

That being said, the TSA is NOT one of those things rich people are unhappy about because they charter private planes and having flown that way once in my life I can say that having money for flying doesn't suck.

More seriously, money can't buy happiness but it does come with a reduction in serious problems. Being unable to feed your family or afford rent can be an overwhelming when you are poor. That's much more serious than having to sell off the secondary winter house on the ski slope.

It sounds like the real problem here was depression. Depression is not the same as being unhappy. It's a whole other beast that often has it's roots in broken brain chemistry. He should have been on some medication for it, but I bet he didn't take any because it would probably also dampen that spark that made him such a brilliant comedian.

Money is like a pause button mentally and emotionally. Can only keep shit paused so long.

I am surprised this group doesn't understand that different life experiences can create people with different points of view, and that doesn't make the person stupid, or even necessarily wrong.

People who fall into windfalls and have their lives destroyed are stupid, but that's half the population anyway, isn't it? Of course half the people will screw it up.

Rob had the kind of money where he could do anything he needed to do to get better. He didn't. If he needed to take a powder from his life (meaning go away, not die) for a while (or forever), he could have. If he needed 24 hour monitoring, he could get it. He could have utilized the services of the best neurologists in the world. This is the third time I am going to say that I understand brain problems are the toughest to beat, because you can't fight yourself when yourself gives up..... but he still made a choice, and he threw away a life in which he would never want for anything. Don't ask me to feel bad for him. It's a shame he did it, I'd prefer he was alive, but goddam. He had it all.

That is one of the more insane things you've typed in a while.

My take on what you said was "He could afford to keep himself alive". But I don't see how anything you said equates to happiness.

He had it all. How do you know?

It's perfectly sane. That's the problem. Assigning sane and rational reasoning to an insane person (Williams).

Recently I had a 2nd cousin kill herself. She left behind two kids. I had to stop trying to get my head around it. Suicide is one of the most selfish things a person can do (unless done while throwing yourself on a live grenade). But I've never felt so hopeless that I thought it would NEVER get better. I just couldn't relate to where she might be.

If Robin Williams had been capable of that reasoning, then he wouldn't have been mentally ill.

His death pics are out there. I was tricked into clicking on one last night... gruesome. Wish I could unsee.

Apparently now people are complaining because they tuned into the news conference to get details of his death and were given details of his death.

Just because he was at least partially right in the head at some point doesn't mean he was right in the head when he hung himself.

Couldn't find any with a quick google search. What's gruesome about a hanging? Heard his body was basically sitting, but leaning forward.

Going to make a gap in case someone doesn't want to read. Even describing it disturbs me.

It was a closeup of his upper torso, neck stretched and a really deep belt indentation under his jaw. Stubbly face. Clearly him.

I think it's disturbing to you because you have a connection to him. You've seen his movies and enjoyed them.

We've all watched videos where folks are maimed or murdered and it doesn't have the same impact because they're strangers.

Odd that no google search I try comes up with anything.
