I'm trying to think of how one could commit suicide in this manner, and I can't come up with anything. This guy must have been very creative.

The only thing I can think is that he was pissed, and showed his anger by slamming his head into something hard. Under estimated the impact and it cause him to collapse, and hitting his head on the garage concrete a second time.
But I think that would be ruled an accident rather than suicide.
It would take a special person to be able to beat yourself in the head with a hammer until dead. That's commitment.
