I actually wonder if it's a potential loophole, but I'm sure someone has tried it. If we can think of it, I'm sure someone else has.

I think if a school gets hit with certain NCAA violations, students are able to transfer. However, that's a pretty rare case. Aside from PSU, I don't remember that offer being made to students elsewhere.

In other news, Mike Tyson plays for the Houston Cougars?

I thought it was offered to OSU players when Trussel was removed in disgrace as well.

They are all students.

If it happens during recruiting, after your binding letter of intent, most schools will release you. Sure, all the other schools you may want to go to are full, but...

Nope. And by disgrace, do you mean taking the fall trying to protect your students from a stupid mistake, which happened to be selling their own property (something Bama players were also caught doing during the same time, but weren't punished for), then immediately becoming the president of another university while still being held in high regard by everyone outside of Michigan? Quite the disgrace.

Yep.

There are only two schools that I can name right now who have publicly fought student transfers recently: Bama and Michigan.

You keep ignoring the sports scholarship part. I'm guessing you weren't there on a sports scholarship or anything else. Other than the paycheck, I'm guessing the school really didn't care if you were there or not. You didn't go to the school with a predetermined contract for services, etc.

No, I didn't. In the very first post, I said this only applied to 5 of the scholarship sports, so why are they special? And you ignored that.

I don't have an answer for that other than it should apply to all sports, in my opinion.

And I believe you went back and edited your post and added the "Because I'm not an athlete" to it. I remember reading that and thinking "Ya, because you're not an athlete". So stop cheating.

Which it? The 5 sports aren't special, and people should be able to transfer once like every other sport?

I didn't make any edits, so I don't know what you mean. I don't even remember my post either, so I'd have to re-read it. I was trying to say that literally every other student can do it, except ones who play these 5 sports on scholardship.

I think all sports should limit transfers. If you agree to a contract where the school provides an education and you agree to play as part of their sports program, you should be locked in that contract.

Most of those "contracts" are year to year, not guaranteed for all 4 years. (Although they typically auto-renew)

For a person who claims to like freedom, you sure hate it.

At any rate, these kids are students first (in theory, and, honestly, that's the best 98% of them can hope for), and should be in control of their lives, not other people such as the NCAA.

I don't think people should be free to enter a contract and then bail.

And from the beginning, I could go either way on this. Just participating on this side of the conversation. Had you taken the opposite view, I would have been arguing the other side. I already said "they are there for an education. And if they can get a better education at a different school, they should be allowed to."

It's an annual contract. Yet, all the power is in the institution's hands.
Cakedaddy wrote: Just participating on this side of the conversation
Gotcha. I used to be more on the side of the institution. But I mean, those places would fuck over athletes in a heartbeat, too many of the times. So why not equal out the balance of power.

Buckeyes have won 3 in a row after tonight's win at Michigan. It's almost like they remember being ranked.

Willie Taggart is going to play for Willie Taggart.

I guess he didn't see how badly his dad led FSU...

Colorado unretiring three numbers for recruits.

My first reaction was this sucks. However, they plan to put a patch on the specific uniforms to honor the person who had the number retired. Kids get the number they want, schools will never run out of numbers, and the honored players are always brought up instead of being an ignored number on a wall or hanging from the rafters. That's fucking awesome.

I'm now a huge fan of this and think other schools should consider doing the same.
