World Cup 2014
I put money on the Germans. They were actually +170!

During this year's NCAA tournament, someone set me up with an account to a betting website. Apparently, this is how such things are done these days. You can't just go and sign up, someone has to create the account for you.
I was given $1000 in credit, which is hilarious since my bets are always $5, and aside from parleys to keep the account open, I never gamble.
I could look into it for you if you're interested.

I believe they're foreign, yes.
You do actually cash out.
What do you mean by "a match"? If you gamble that $1000 and lose, you do have to pay it back...
Basically, remember how back in the day people would call a bookie and place a bet? Well, you still have a bookie, but now you do all your gambling through the website.
From what I understand the bookie pays a fee for each account they setup. Thus, expect to have your account cancelled if you go too long without betting. (That's why I've been gambling lately on the World Cup and parlays. Typically, I'll do one long shot parlay on baseball every two weeks.) Once your account is closed, it will be expected to be settled, but you do that with the bookie.
Now here's where it's really smart. I have no direct contact with the bookie. I don't even know who he is, nor does he know who I am. My account was setup because someone he does know asked him to do so. That means that person is on the line if I don't pay. Criminally speaking, it's very smart. Although, the guy I use doesn't just hand out the accounts willy nilly because, again, they pay for each one they create.
I have golf tonight and will see the guy who got me an account and I'll ask him to inquire about how a guy I know in NC would get an account.

I'll still ask as I'm curious.TheCatt wrote:Ahh, OK. I think I'll hold off for now.
How has your gambling been doing so far?
When the account was started, I was up $50 or so from the tournament. I dropped down to $10, and then hit the parlay which took me to $180. I think I'm at $178 right now despite heavy (for me) betting over this last weekend. I think I lost 2 $5 bets, but won 2.
This $180 should last me a loooong time. I figure when I drop to $0 I'll close the account. I'm not as big a gambler as some of my friends. Not even in the same realm. They need to gamble on everything or place bets every day. They have to remind me to make a bet before my account gets closed.
Oh, and I have one outstanding bet that I hope keeps my account open through the football season. I bet $5 that the Steelers will win the Super Bowl. It pays $125 if they do. Kind of a shitty payout considering the $180 I won on 4 baseball games for a $5 bet.

Just wait for the day when you can walk into the doc's office and get a designer baby with designer genetic code.TheCatt wrote:Step 1: Be hot

My friend and I came to that same general conclusion a couple years ago when we drunkenly suggested combining the biz model from Jiffy Lube with the staff concept from Hooters. The name possibilities were boggling. Then we realized that attractive women or people in general will make anything more profitable.TheCatt wrote:Step 1: Be hot

Did you then discover that fire is hot and water is wet?
Anyone NOT think the Germans are going to rock Argentina, too?
I am going to put money on the Germans.

I'm hoping Argentina remembers all the Nazis that lived in their general vicinity and feel the need to exact some vengeance. Because fuck Europe.
