I have no complaints about my Android.

I would never get an iPhone because I am not a huge douchebag faggot.

I have the iphone 4s and i don't have any trouble with reception at all. I have verizon as my carrier not sure what carrier Leisher has but maybe that is the problem there. Or maybe its because its the 4s and something got fixed after the 4.

You don't go anywhere. :D

I have the iPhone 4s as well, and from my own experience, as well as, my folks in the field, the iPhone 4 sucks for reception. (Different carriers)

Although, since we're talking about carriers, I would recommend Verizon right now. As recently as a year ago, I would have said AT&T, but Verizon has made huge strides. Meanwhile, AT&T has really hurt their network while upgrading. Another year might change that as AT&T has a ridiculous number of towers coming online (that's why Verizon is pushing their led in ads right now...).

I am not a huge douchebag faggot.

Nobody has ever said you were huge.

I had an iphone 3.2. It was the second version of the 3. It wasn't bad. All of what Leisher said is true. I would add that the iphone is very restrictive. You use it the way they want you to. Yes, it can do more. But you are not aloud to do that. NO! That was my biggest problem with it. I could not make it mine. It was Steve's. Not mine. Used it for about 20 months.

Have an Android now. I like it WAY more than the iphone. I can customize the interface. I can add app pages, or delete them. I can have 4 icons per page, or 16. I can change the font. Etc. But from a business stand point, my Android does things the iphone could not. My email works WAY better on the Android. iphone had many synching issues. That being said, I had those same issues with the Android mail client. When I installed K-9 email (free app), all synching issues went away. I liked how the iphone handled email folders only slightly more than the Android does. But neither does it well. Calendar: I use Google calendar and manage multiple calendars. I can synch and display all 6 of them on my Android. My iphone would only do one. The main calendar for the account. It did not see the secondary calendars. This was a big deal for me. Again, I had to install a third part app to get good calendar support. I use Business Calendar (free version that is ad supported, but I have yet to see a single ad while using it. Not a single one, ever, in over a year of heavy use.) I could not find a free email or calendar app on the iphone that did what I wanted. And none of the paid apps seemed very promising either.

The voicemail support on the iphone kicks the shit out of Android. By a mile. That is the ONLY thing I miss from the iphone. It was awesome. I think I can pay $5 extra per month to get enhanced voicemail on my Android through AT&T. I have not tried it to find out.

The iphone does run smoother than the Android. But I think that's because the Android will multitask. So, if I've got too many things running, my music might skip a bit. But that's about it.

GPS on Android kicks iphones ass as bad as iphone's voicemail kicks Androids. It's an actual, usable GPS. I have stopped using my standalone GPS as my phone, at this point, is better and more reliable. Intelligently takes traffic flow into consideration when mapping routes. iphone has a map app that follows you, but provides no navigational aid. They may have changed this (caught up) by now though.

iphone: It is what it is. You can get it in white or black.
Android: It's what you want it to be. Huge massive second monitor sized screen for awesomeness, or smaller screen, easy to fit in your pocket. Dual core CPU with GPU support for solid (phone based) gaming and speedyness, or single core adequate for economy. Need more storage? Buy some and put it in. It's really cheap. Etc, etc, etc. With the Android platform, you can buy exactly what you want.

All that being said, I have an Atrix by Motorola. It's been a VERY solid performer for me. Faster than my wife's Samsung Infuse. But her screen is massive. And as it goes in the Android world, those phones aren't even available any more as they've been outdated. I would just find the phone that offers what you want (Price, size, guts, docking station, HDMI out, etc) and then read user reviews.

Out of the box, iphone looks and feels better to the user. Spend a bit of time learning what Android can do, and very soon, Android is WAY better than iphone. There is no learning curve with the iphone. There is a very short curve with Android.

Lastly, the service (reception, data, etc) was the same on both my iphone and my Atrix. Both on AT&T and both were very lacking compared to the Verizon users standing next to me. I did not see a difference in service between the iphone and the Atrix.

I have a Droid 3, it's... mediocre, showing it's age (16 months now), etc.

I'm partial to Android, but the fragmentation is a pain. The slow OS updates are a fucking disaster. I'll never buy another Motorola phone ever, right now.

If I were to get a phone right now, I'd either get an iPhone 5 or a Galaxy S3. Both are fast, easy to use, bigger screens. Maps on Android are complete win (I probably use that app more than anything else except music).

My brain sees things thusly...

Windows Phone: I'm worried beyond words for Windows 8. For every XP, they make a Millennium. For every Windows 7, they make a Vista.

Droid: Google megalomania, but if the Droid dances like you say it does, it might be worth it.

Samsung: Wary of them until Apple's done fucking them sideways in patent court, but they're not Apple, Google, or Macroshaft.

Wife has a Samsung Galaxy tablet.

As near as I can tell, you can't pull the battery in the times it locks up. It seems to lock up quite a bit.

My wife has an Asus Transformer Prime. I don't not get reports of it locking up. Has other issues like jittery video during Netflix or slow surfing. But nothing like locking up. But then, this is probably irrelevant since they don't make phones.

I'm not looking for anything big into apps or vid. I just need a reliable internet capable device to carry with me. If it can double as an mp3 player without trouble, that'd be a decent bonus.

Yeah, I'm still dumbfounded that thing is still around. Only reason I can figure is because Apple's married it to its other gadgets.

Google Music works quite well. Not awesome, but very good, and you can pin particular artists/songs/playlists to your phone to not be internet bound.

Got a couple days to pick between something Droid and something Winblows. If Winblows has the specific apps I care about, it will probably win.

Whatever you get, for MP3 management and syncing I recommend Media Monkey Gold. It has all the cool bells and whistles that iTunes does without the included running like shit. Works with apple and android products, I would guess W8 as well.

On that subject, does anyone know of a good media player for Android that can handle syncing back ratings and track playcount info like apple does? I'm ready to ditch my iTouch but the default music players for android are just god awful.

Google Music does playcount and ratings. It may only do thumbs up/down though.

Looks like Droid's going to win.

Windows 8 randomly reboots phones.
Windows 8 UI sucks. Turns out trying to use the same UI for a smart device and a PC is a bad fucking idea.

Did Droid abandon their open architecture? No?

Then they will never win as they'll never get the business market.

This is MS's first run into the mobile world, and all signs point to them being all in, so give them time to get away from 1st gen stuff.

If you'll remember, Apple's 1st gen stuff was garbage too.
