There are anti-virus/anti-malware apps to help you detect that stuff.

Do you have reason to suspect?

A hunch mostly, but it seems like my battery drains faster over the last few months, and data usage is way up. I wonder if something got snuck on to my phone before she left.

Very possible.

Save your photos and music, then scratch and reload it. Better yet, go get a new phone.

Want me to ask my Verizon and/or AT&T rep how one can detect such things?

"Incognito Spyware Detector" says I'm clean.

I must be just trippin.

But ask away, if you feel like it.

Factory data reset is always best option.... Alternatively, he can go into settings, data usage and see what's using the data. Or go into play store to see what's downloaded. Or settings-apps (app manager)- all apps and see what's on there.

I had assumed that any good spyware would be written to not list itself in "Installed Apps," and possibly attribute its internet usage to a different app. Not sure if that's possible, but that's what I figured.

I think the phone would have to be rooted for that not to be the case.
