So it's basically doing the same as its peers. But, with more death.Despite this, various forecasts predict the Swedish economy will still shrink by about 5% this year. That's less than other countries hit hard by Covid-19 such as Italy, Spain and the UK, but still similar to the rest of Scandinavia. Sweden's unemployment rate of 9% remains the highest in the Nordics, up from 7.1% in March.
I would argue, knowing what we know now, that shutdowns were the right move, for ~6-8 weeks to get control, let more testing capacity develop, etc with gradual re-opening. Sweden would have done better death-wise since so much was front loaded, there and everywhere. I would argue NC should be a little more open that it is. Our gyms are still closed. I would open them at partial capacity, etc. I certainly don't want to get the virus, but it's not terrible enough to shut down everything again.
