Well, that's been LONG established. . . .

But as far as this discussion goes, just sharing the other side of the coin.

As of 3.24.2020

COnfirmed infected = 411k
Total infected = Ti + 411k. No one knows.
Recovered, never confirmed = Rnc. No one knows.
Total recovered = 110k + Rnc
Confirmed deaths - 18k

Largest county in NC just went lockdown until April 16th... Guess Trump's going to unlock it on Easter Day as Jesus rises.

I went to the hardware store to buy supplies for a project. Goal is to be done before the kids go back to school.

I love how states are now locking down, and he's ready to call the crisis over.

He's either insanely stupid or insanely evil, there is no in-between.

I don't have those numbers. Do you? I'd be curious to know.

The only estimate I've seen is 20-30%, that was from China, and it was "diminished lung function/scarring" so they lost some breath, but it didn't say how much, and I'm not sure what the long term prognosis is.

And the second part of my question is, how can they tell that people living in polluted-air-china didn't already have diminished lunch function, going in? :-D

But here's my source: https://aqicn.org/map/china/

I felt like they did. They were numbers representing people who got it, and what the outcome was. Out of the 126845 cases that have run full course, 108k recovered, 18.5k died. The 411k you mention, we have not seen the end result of yet, so it's just a running tally. Agreed that there are x number of cases that have come and gone without detection which would skew the actual death rate. But just the known cases, it's spreading fast and wide. And of those confirmed, it's killing a lot of them. Granted, a HUGE percentage of those dying are the expendable oldies. But it's still killing people. I like MY oldies and I'd like to protect them! There is also the difference between dying OF COVID, and dying WITH COVID. Then we'd have to look at how many of those people would still be alive if they had not had COVID. Sure, the HBP Diabetic died of a heart attack while infected with COVID. But obviously the COVID was a contributing factor. There are lots of ways to argue the death rate up and down. But bottom line, it's killing a LOT of people. And left unchecked, would kill a LOT more.

Also, consider this:
We are learning a LOT about shit. This is a relatively minor virus with a comparatively low mortality rate. What if this had been the stuff of nightmares? Consider this a practice drill, that we are failing MISERABLY. If nothing else, hopefully we learn something from all of this.

You will feel like a fool for having studied, written, talked about these subjects, criticized and analyzed decisions made by presidents for years without having known of the existence of all this information, which presidents and others had and you didn’t, and which must have influenced their decisions in ways you couldn’t even guess

Ditto. Also, none of the medical experts, including HIS OWN, agree with him, so I guess he has info they don't even have?

Our county has stopped testing anyone below age 65, no matter what, so the #s from our county are no longer meaningful.

I've seen a lot of criticism about the USA not testing everyone.

I was wondering what that would look like.

To be meaningful, on Friday we need to test 350 million people, in order to get a very accurate idea of what's going on.

Then on the next Friday, we need to test 350 million people, in order to get a very accurate idea of what's going on.

Keep repeating through the thing.

Doesn't seem feasible, at all, either in materials or logistics.

I figure it'd be more like flu testing, where they do it at the drop of a hat. But you're right, we need random testing as well in order to determine just how bad this is.

And you only need sampling, you never need the entire population. Statistics 101

To estimate how many have it, sure. But not to KNOW who has is!

It would give us a much better picture than what we know today. Everyone with symptoms should be tested, but we need random sampling to go with it.
