Mankind is clearly affecting the environment. Even if you don't believe in global warming, you have to believe in pollution and extinction of species caused over overfishing, hunting, running out of wilderness, the elimination of forests, and the mass use of chemicals.
Every day we're bombarded with buy this, don't buy that, use this, don't use that, tell your politicians, and so on regarding how to reverse the trend that will ultimately doom us. We do live on a rock floating through space with a finite amount of resources.
So let's say that barring some tech solutions that we all assume are on their way, our governments are eventually going to force people to begin rationing resources, driving certain cars or even telecommuting more, shop online versus driving to malls, and so on. However, aren't all of these just delays?
If every human on the planet lived in perfect balance with nature and no nations or corporations did anything to harm the environment our sheer need as a species that is constantly growing in number would eventually result in the same issues we're seeing now.
So what is the "real" solution?
IMHO, there are only two real options for the survival of the human race here on Earth:
1. A large percentage of humans move into space.
2. The elimination of a large number of human beings in the name of preserving the species and the Earth.
Prove me wrong.
