I know some of you disagree. To clarify, I don't mean ALL people.... only like 98% of them.

I'll use this thread to post my thoughts about why.

Do you remember that movie where peeps could push a button, they'd get a million bucks, but someone they didn't know would die? And there was that twist?

I don't think it would take a million. I bet 75% of all people on earth would push that button for a grand, if there would be no twist payback.

I have nothing to back that up, but I'd sure as hell like to see a sampling of a million people, and the amount it would take. I'm guessing the majority would be right about $1k USD. Because people are garbage.

Wait, are the people taking the $1k the garbage, or do they not care about killing other people because OTHER people are garbagE?

Interesting take on it, but I meant the peeps who would push the button for a K are garbage. No guarantee you aren't killing a kid or something.

This one?

I would actually like to see this scenario tested to see how the average person reacts.

What price makes it acceptable to push the button?
What if you were killing someone who was guaranteed to be a piece of shit like Jeffrey Epstein?

There's no price that makes it ok.

And anonymity needs to be part of it.

Picturing some of you slamming the button like a teenager beating his meat.

I would not hit the button at any price.

My morals would not allow me to do so, AND I've seen way too many movies. Plus, I generally believe the other shoe will drop. It's why I don't talk mad trash when my sports ball teams win championships. (Ask Stranger) I would just assume that eventually I'd be the target of the button.

Now that being said, if you gave me a button that would guarantee ONLY someone like Jeffrey Epstein would be killed, I would not only push it, but my price for doing so would be really cheap.

I love that line, and obviously the source material. However, I don't think folks like Epstein deserve that level of respect.

There was research done years ago with people delivering what they thought were lethal doses of electricity to test subjects because people of authority were telling them to do it. They were told what level was lethal and started at a lower level and the "doctor" kept telling them yo up the voltage until they were well above the level they were told was dangerous. Humans have an interesting ability to tell ourselves that immoral things we're doing aren't immoral because or our special circumstance.

CEO Offers to settle children's school lunch debt; School district says "no thanks"
A Pennsylvania school district that threatened to have children placed in foster care if their parents' didn't pay outstanding lunch tabs has apparently rejected a businessman's offer to cover the cost.

At first glance, the school is wrong, but...
But the district's school board president, Joseph Mazur, refused the proposition in a telephone conversation on Monday, arguing that the lunch money is owed by parents who can afford to pay,
I'm guessing this guy is sick and tired of dealing with parents who pull this shit. The world is full of assholes constantly trying to get out of anything they can.

Until we get more data, I'm not taking the word of someone who said he was going to rip families apart over lunch money.

I understand that, but reading between the lines you can tell there's frustration there.

My wife's plane Monday was delayed for 15 minutes or so because a massive family tried to circumvent paying for luggage by all of them trying to use standard luggage as carry-ons. They even had the kids doing it. The matriarch even went so far as to firmly refuse and then tried to board the plane with her luggage and no authorization to do so. The flight attendant had to physically stop her and call security.

A lot of people will do some disgusting shit to save a buck.

So yeah, the letter was clearly a massive error in judgement, but I wonder what behavior from the parents got him to that point.

But for how long, and was it intentional? I'm thinking this goes on every year and a lot of it is intentional. Thus his frustration.

My brother-in-law has a dental practice. He tends to be more generous than he should. One of his patients was always talking to him about his financial troubles and his kids doing without, etc, etc. He had to do some pretty extensive work on the guy one time that went far beyond what his insurance covered. He ended up eating well over a grand for him to help him out. His next routine visit he wanted my brother-in-law to come out and see his brand new jeep.
