I might know a cure for hurricanes. Buy a generator. Last house, we used to lose power constantly. After the 3rd complete fridge/freeze loss, bought a generator. Never lost power again for more than 5 minutes. So if you prepare for those outages by buying a generator, they may never come again. 100% of the time I bought a generator, that's what happened. Just sayin'.

Well, the somewhat good news... the storm is projected to slowdown dramatically once it hits the shores. It might take until Sunday to hit us, instead of Saturday.

Good news: Less intense winds, possibly.

Bad news: lots more rain/flooding.

Guess we'll also see how accurate those 100 year flood plan maps are. We are outside of the flood plain here, but not by a ton.

Our forecast went from 7-10" of rain to 12-18 / 18+ for some parts of Raleigh.

My parents have had a beach house in Carolina Beach since I was a kid. They were out of country but flew back just in time to start prepping yesterday.

The storm shutters are going up and they are trying to move the flats boat out of the garage so the storm surge doesn’t smash it against the garage ceiling. I’m worried and feel bad I can’t help. It’s not the their first hurricane, but this one looks awful bad.

The predicted 15-16 feet of storm surge is real bad. Shit.

The tracking moved a lot overnight. IT's going to hit the SC-NC border now, and roll through SC instead of us.

Hmmmm.
President Donald Trump touted his administration's response to Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico as "an incredible, unsung success" during an Oval Office briefing on the upcoming hurricane bearing down on the Carolinas.

His comments run counter to how many locals and experts have assessed the federal government's response.
"I think Puerto Rico was incredibly successful," Trump said, noting that the island location is "tough" during a hurricane due to the inability to transport vital equipment and supplies by truck. "It was one of the best jobs that's ever been done with respect to what this is all about."

My boss just flew down to SC yesterday. I have a feeling he's going to be stuck for a bit.

As for Trump's quote, to be fair to him, the view of the government can be vastly different from the view of locals. Point being, due to corruption and whatnot, the government might feel they did everything they could do, while the locals got fucked by locals, yet would still blame the government because they don't know the locals fucked them.

Good thing South Carolina is a hilly state where water would easily drain away.

Interesting, even with the change of direction, most rain predicted to be in NC.

Looks like it's going to Ohio after SC/TN/KY. Enjoy

We're still in the possible range for losing power, but rainfall is only expected to be 5-8", and winds are expected in the 40-50mph range.
