What's everyones opinion of "Happy Mother's Daying" women who aren't your mother?

I tend to be a purist... I say it to my mom, and (even now) I take my kid out to buy his mom flowers. And I told him there are different schools of thought, but I only say it to my mom, because that makes it more especial. I told him he can make his own decision about it.

But others throw that platitude out like crabs at a 70's orgy, one of my sisters even says it to our old aunt who couldn't have kids, "Because she was like a mom to me, all my life...." which as far as I'm concerned is sort of insulting to our actual mother. Again, I think throwing around a compliment waters it down.

But I'm sure others disagree.

Mother's Day is for my mom + my wife.

I dunno, if I saw other moms I might say something. But supposedly they have people to do that for them.

Mother's day is for my mom, mil, and wife.

I would have no problem with someone recognizing it with a motherly figure other than their actual mom, but that person needs to have raised you solo. Like if mom was a druggie and grandma raised you.
