Don't count out Bloomberg yet.

And if he doesn't get the nod, does he run as a third party candidate?

Sanders defending Fidel Castro's regime in Cuba.

Depending on your stance there's positives about everything. Apparently, even murdering despots!

Sanders admits he's going to raise taxes on the middle class.

I mean, it's true. But there's no room for nuance any more.

There's good in everything. Again, depending on your stance or how you view it. I could point out the positives of the hundred thousand people killed by that tsunami if asked. However, someone aspiring to be president should probably avoid praising guys like Castro who ruled by force over a Cuba that wasn't exactly a paradise.

I won't argue about that... but:

1) What about employment taxes?

2) What about self employment income?

3) Business tax rates?

4) 20% self-employment deduction?

At face value Bernie's tax plan isn't the most offensive thing I've ever seen. However...

1) I think the chart is a bit disingenuous because it doesn't note the 47-49% of Americans that don't pay any taxes at all. Kind of an important segment to mention when you're asking the half of Americans who do pay taxes to pay even more. Exceptionally important when you're raising taxes to fund more free stuff for those non-tax payers.

2) What happens when more money is needed? Point being, isn't raising taxes always a very short term solution to problems? People aren't going to stop fucking and making more people, and his side of the aisle is trying to make it easier for foreign people to just show up and latch onto the government teat. Do we really think this will be it for increased taxes for the foreseeable future? It doesn't even seem to take into account state and city taxes.

3) Do you know what happens when businesses encounter higher costs? They pass it onto the customers. When you put higher costs on the people who own the businesses, what do you think is going to be the net result?

4) I still need to be convinced that people with more money should be taxed at a higher rate than people with less money. It's, literally, punishing people for success. What's wrong with a flat tax where we all get taxed at the same rate, but those with more money would obviously pay more?

5) How is the tax code going to be changed to close loop holes?

Saw this is in an opinion piece on CNN about Sanders' chances of beating Trump:
Then there's the label "socialism" -- the umbrella under which democratic socialism lives. It's really not popular: Gallup shows that more Americans say they would vote for a gay, Muslim or atheist president than a socialist.

2 - We used to have much higher rates, for years, but they've slowly eroded to the point where they are now. Great for the top 10%, sucks for the rest.

3 - We already had higher taxes, guess what? It didn't work like that.

4 - Marginal dollar utility implies that dollars are more valuable when you earn fewer, thus increasing marginal tax rates maximizes social utility for a given level of tax collecting.

5 - Like?

2 - We used to own slaves. It used to be that a single income household was more than enough to live the middle class lifestyle. A lot of things used to be true, but mean nothing as it applies to today.

3 - "Past performance is no guarantee of future results."

Times change. Shit is a lot more expensive. Corporations are far greedier and running on smaller skeleton crews. Jobs get shipped overseas. People are more educated, but far stupider. "Keeping up with the Joneses" is no longer an insult, but a way of life. Our entire economy has shifted from one based mostly in manufacturing to one based on service. The government has never been larger and employed more people. We, as citizens and our government, have never been more in debt. (And this list goes on and on...)

My point was: What are we doing to address all that? How does raising taxes so we can afford more handouts solve that stuff? And please keep in mind, I'm in favor of helping the poor and dismantling the ridiculous college system. Is more spending really the solution? The European utopia folks like Sanders point to aren't utopias at all, and that's been shown time and time again by documentaries, events in the news (Whose government just collapsed thanks to health care...Finland?), folks who live there speaking out, British people's teeth, etc.

I don't think we should be in a huge rush to keep spending more and more money when we're already crazy in debt. And why are we rushing to copy systems that may or may not work?

4 - Yeah, yeah I know. "You've got more than me, thus it's less valuable to you, so fork some over!" Completely logical, however is it right (just)?

5 - I don't know. I'm not a tax accountant, but I hear all the time about loopholes. What are Bernie's plans to prevent rich folks from moving their money before his plan goes into effect? For example, the Power of Zero guy is advising folks to get as much into Roth accounts as possible prior to...the date is eluding me at the moment, but it's when the next tax hike is due.

Why is the solution to all our problems "spend more money"? Doesn't seem logical. If someone was drowning you wouldn't "add more water" to save them. That's not even getting into whether or not the government should be intentionally taking over an entire sector of private business. "Hey, you won't get a dime of the social security you paid into for years, but some lazy fuck in New Orleans who never held a job longer than a week is getting a new heart. Isn't that great!?"

As you can tell, I'm just generally annoyed.

Obama suing a Republican Super PAC running anti-Biden ads.

It'll be so interesting to see if Sanders gets the nod because the Rs really want him to win it.

Sanders "blowback" is becoming a real concern for Ds.

I'm calling it now. If Bernie gets the nomination, he WILL beat Trump. Had he run instead of Hilary, he would have won in 2016.

In a very timely move, Bernie's campaign is now challenging the results in Iowa.

Sanders vs Trump according to an early electoral map.

Trump has the edge and likely victory, but a Sanders win is within reach there.

Unless Bloomberg runs as a third party. Then Trump will win in a landslide.

Sanders and wife under investigation.

Even if there's nothing found, it's still pretty interesting his wife bought a bunch of land for a lot of money and it's cited as a reason for why the college went under.

Garth Brooks pisses off his dumber fans.

I'm going to put this here instead of the virus thread...
Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar on Wednesday declined to promise that a coronavirus vaccine would be affordable for all Americans, sparking outrage from Democrats.
"We would want to ensure that we work to make it affordable, but we can't control that price because we need the private sector to invest," Azar told members of Congress.
...
The administration reversed itself Thursday and said a coronavirus vaccine would be affordable for the American public, after generating a storm of criticism over its potential high cost.
