They still aren't paying dues to the EU, footing the bill for any time they decide to send troops anywhere, bailing out tomorrow's Greece, or anything else.

Yeah, I really don't see a down side to that for the UK. If they get to keep all the up side to being in the EU with none of the bad, I think that will just hasten the death of the EU as we know it today. Germany will be quick to follow. Then it collapses as countries with less money are trying to keep that busted ass raft together and afloat.

Plus now the caliphate needs to take over one country at a time instead of getting them in a lump! :-D

Honestly, I think that's just the latest issue. Lack of sovereignty, bailing out other countries too lazy or scared to make hard choices, and then the proverbial straw of immigration.
It was almost entirely about immigration. The UK was almost entirely sovereign under the EU as are the other countries. There are a few limitations, and the biggest one - right at the core of Brexit - is that people in the EU can move from country to country unrestricted. Which means even if the UK made anti-immigration laws it wouldn't matter; once the immigrants legally get into a different EU country they could then freely move on to the UK. Which some people don't like. Don't want all those Irish I mean, Catholics, I mean Eyetalians, I mean Muslims moving in because they will kill everyone.

The only reason the British didn't kick the Irish out is that back in the day they couldn't rig up an explosion big enough to crack the island and separate the two countries. Same for Scotland. I'm not even going to mention Wales, the Shemp of the UK.

I stand corrected, I guess. No real reason to doubt you. Good for the Brits then.

I actually heard them talking about this on Hardball tonight and the statement was made that this is being framed by opponents as being xenophobia and all about immigration, but the reality is it's just them tired of edicts coming from Brussels. Not sure. Not sure I really care to be honest. I just find it rather amusing that the youth there are calling the older folks that voted for this selfish for wanting to govern themselves. We are a pathetic bunch now.

I'm all for Brexit because I'm all for less government. Every layer of government is just another layer of potential evil and/or incompetence grinding down on the people and removing liberties. Economically this is going to hurt the UK qutie a bit for some time, but that's a small price to pay for getting out from under the mess of the EU.

But don't be fooled. Before the vote it was all about immigration leveraged on xenophobia, and now that it's over the winners want to rewrite recent history to make it sound more noble than it was.

If Ohio were to vote to Ohexit, I would vote to leave and it would have nothing to do with FASCIST XENOPHOBIA.

Weaker euro + weaker pound = cheaper import records. I'll take it.

Britian Brexit Architect to EU

Let's be friends...
He then appealed to MEPs to be "pragmatic, sensible, grown up" following last week's vote in a national referendum to leave.
"Let's cut between us a sensible, tariff-free deal, and thereafter, recognize that the United Kingdom will be your friend -- that we will trade with you, we will cooperate with you, we will be your best friends in the world," he said.
"But do it sensibly and allow us to go off and pursue our global ambitions and future."
Or, not...
"I know that virtually none of you have ever done a proper job in your lives or worked in business or worked in trade or indeed ever created a job. But listen, just listen," said Farage, to boos.
It's not me, it's someone else.

If that were known and was the reason they called for leaving then of course that wouldn't be xenophobia. That would be sensibly avoiding an evil massive superstate. But that wasn't what they were advertising, that wasn't what they were using to appeal to the voters, and that wasn't what the voters were voting about.

Well, that's certainly the story from the Remainers, the other side was voting xenophobic. They know this because of their insight and clarity of thought.

Speaking in the devolved Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh Tuesday, Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon vowed to fight for Scotland to remain in the EU, in line with the wishes of the 62% of Scottish voters who took part in the referendum.
"Scotland has voted to remain in Europe, and we must now take all the action necessary to ensure that the will of the Scottish people is respected," she said.
