Linear regression is like correlation.

But I like to explain ML to programmers as: it's a function. And instead of you writing code, you give it several examples of (input, output).

ML is "machine learning," which is what most people mean when they say "AI" now. Although probably video game enthusiasts actually don't, since they actually have a continuous tradition of rules-based AI, tree-search, path-planning etc. Whereas everybody else's vision of AI is ve...

And I'm not even joking: all modern "AI" is based on ML, which is (in theory) about modeling things with probability distributions.

Also, the SJW bedwetters get mad when the AI comes up with a probability distribution that isn't COMPLETELY UNBIASED BIGOT!

They were in Raleigh for Hopscotch this year. But I didn't go.

Yeah I knew that but also I didn’t feel like battling the crowd and anyway I really only like a few of their songs.

What new (for you) music did you listen to in 2019?

I have a streaming service and don't own anything. BUT, I did add some stuff to my playlists. Jethro Tull: I actually used to own all their CDs. On Spotify there are album versions with some previously un-released tracks. So I enjoyed that. CHVRCHES: Synth-poppy band from Scotland. I like their 2015...

I'll buy you a ticket if you go and heckle him.

Bloomberg says chance of recession decreasing: https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/us-economic-recession-tracker/ Bloomberg Economics created a model to determine America’s recession odds. Right now, the indicator estimates the chance of a U.S. recession at some point in the next year is 26%, down sl...

TBH, I really enjoyed the first Iron Man. The rest of the MCU movies were...kinda dumb. The later trend toward wokeness was also pretty eye-roll-inducing and cringe*. Like the whole BADASS WYMYN SHE-ROES AGAINST THANOS shot. In fact, all the giant CGI battles I found to be monotonous and not at all ...

Meh. I'm not quitting my day job.

BTW, AWS *does* have "NAS in the cloud" (https://aws.amazon.com/fsx/windows/faqs/) but unfortunately it only connects to their servers (or across a VPN). I don't know why they require that; it sounds like it's basically what you need.

And sorry for the drive-by posting. I’m pretty busy lately (teaching an AWS class in fact ...)

The thing is, if you expect the cloud to be the same thing you’re doing “on prem,” just virtual, you’ll probably be disappointed. It’s like Henry Ford and the faster horse.

Every major corporation's official policies are indistinguishable from woke SJW-ism. With the possible exception of Chik-fil-a and Hobby Lobby.
