Post-Corona Economy

30% of the economy, about $7trillion per year, is offline right now due to shutdowns
Estimated, of course.

That's 500+bn per month. Aka 3.5 months of stimulus money

I'm going to say yes. I just don't believe these people were materially, directly victims. They could see the improved stats just like the rest of us

189597 Unlike other estimates, however, they adjusted for undiagnosed cases and the number of people in each age group of a population. So they took the undiagnosed data from Germany or South Korea, or similar where testing is much more widespread, and applied it to China, where we've seen the dise...

I would guess that SK's #s are the best, due to known lack of testing in both Italy + US (LA)

Trying this today, except no cinnamon or cayenne, and using paprika. My kids + I don't love spicy food because we don't hate ourselves.

RIP Tom Dempsey Former New Orleans Saints kicker Tom Dempsey, who famously made a 63-yard field goal in 1970 despite being born without toes on his right kicking foot, has died due to complications of the coronavirus, his daughter said. He was 73. I remember hearing about that when I was a kid, and...

2008/2009 was much bigger than 9/11, so yes.

189586 People had purchased gasoline "futures," that may not be the correct term. They had bought this gas (5k gallons, or whatever) when it was $1.50 per gallon, and were then taking delivery, one fill-up at a time, when gas was over $3 per gallon. Those are indeed futures. I do not know...

189583 I will happily close this thread when the ripples end. Not like I'm rooting for bad shit, but I can tell when a rock has been thrown in still water. A lot of people thought the world would end in 2008/early 2009. This is bigger, imho, but government's have responded much more quickly. So... ...

I'm fine with a new thread, this is disruptive. I think post-virus will be normalcy, more or less, but there's always a chance this is a catalyst for Sanders-like government.

I think the goal is some level of normalcy in Summer. Building more capacity in the medical centers, having more people immune from exposure, having more + better medications/treatments will all go a long way to minimizing the disease. I'd like to speculate June, thinks will be much more normal than...

I feel that Gordon is being a bit alarmist. But, there is a real risk of stagflation, inflation or other long term economic ills as a result of this. Getting back to normal may be hard. Don't buy the administration line. But don't be chicken little either. Btw, China owns $1.1T of US debt. That shou...

189546 That sounds fair. No wonder I couldn't find a news article about it. It's hard to find any good information about anything these days. The WSJ did a shitty, shitty op-ed article on it, not quite with the slant your right winger gave, but a similarly poor quality take. There perspective was &...

189553 If those personal stimulus checks don't keep coming every month (or some other bailout), we'll be looking at that "Great Depression 2" timeline, again. The CARES Act provides an additional $600/week in unemployment on top of existing state benefits rights? Even for self employed pe...

Kind of. It's to monitor the 2 trillion $ of appropriated money is spent.
