• Is this a “reboot,” a “reimagining,” a “remake,” or a “re-quel”?
• Is it a bad sign or a terrible sign that the first half of this trailer is entirely composed of exposition, attempting to explain the convoluted plotting of this movie, and we still couldn’t explain it to you if you paid us?
I thought they did a perfectly cromulent job of giving too much information, it looks like they are doing what the show The Sarah Conner Chronicles did, which is to rewrite the timeline. I think the trailer gave away way too much.

I read an interesting theory about these movies a while back:
The Arnold terminator from the first movie was the last one the machines sent, as a last ditch effort to kill John Conner before he was conceived. The first one they sent was the TX chick from Terminator 3, their most advanced model, to kill an adult John Conner before he became a general, and his future lieutenants. It failed so they decided the "X" part of that model must have sucked, so they sent back the tried-and-true liquid metal version, next. It failed. It found a T-100 already protecting John Conner as a child. At this point the war was going badly for the machines, as John Conner said, "Skynet was all but beaten, the grid was smashed," (or whatever) so they sent the last Terminator model they had available, Arnold, to 1984.
I liked that theory.
I have recommended The Sarah Conner Chronicles more than once, but I find I must do it again. The machines played serious time travel fuckery in that show, even sending terminators back to the 1950's and letting themselves get built into building walls so they would be onsite to perform surgical assassinations, as needed, in the future. And that's just a little of the fuckery. If nothing else, the TV show removes the 3rd and 4th movies from the timeline, entirely.
Vince I make sweet, sweet love to my legally licenced copy of Microsoft Vista.

This series for me is kind of odd. I enjoy these movies. They're just fun as long as you don't think about them too much. The first was obviously great. But as each one is done it seems to diminish the entire series as a whole in my mind to where I'm now thinking they should have stopped after the first one.

Nailed it.
This movie is a perfect extension of the time travel fuckery they were pulling in the TV show.

Second viewing on a legit bluray.... I still think it deserves way better than the 25% it has on rotten tomatoes. I'm not sure why the movie is so hated.
