Delayed "indefinitely".
Another possible reason Ep VIII was moved was for exactly this reason. Star Wars' dick is bigger and they probably wanted to put Avatar and Cameron in their place.

FOUR sequels.
Cameron and whatever studio is backing him is really putting a lot of eggs into this basket. They are aware that once people left the theater and were no longer hypnotized by the pretty effects they started to realize the story was complete garbage? I don't know any kids into Avatar. On Halloween I didn't see any Avatars running around.
Cameron is a great film maker, but I've got to admit that I'm kind of rooting for a flop with the first sequel just to watch him and the studio scramble knowing they have 3 more to release.

Disney is turning part of Animal Kingdom into Avatar world or some shit.
It makes sense. The worst park getting the worst attraction.
