Sports personality wears "Caucasians" shirt on TV.
The shirt, which we've talked about in the sports thread here months ago, mocks the Cleveland Indians shirt design.
I love the shirt. I think it's pure comedy. However, I don't think he should have worn it on TV. The shirt itself is as racist as the racism it claims to end. By wearing it, he's essentially saying two wrongs make a right.
Not to mention a black guy wearing a racist shirt on national TV...well, that might not be a good message no matter where you stand on the racism issue.
I don't know. If one of my black friends or family members wore the shirt, I'd think it was hilarious and have no issue, but for some reason, this stranger wearing it on national TV bugs me.

I get your point, but take away your knowledge of the Cleveland Indians and now it's either a shirt proclaiming a love for white people or a shirt mocking them.
If Indians is racist, so is Caucasians.
I'm not sure I believe Indians is racist. Chief Wahoo I can see as racist, but Indians? Are they a part of American history? Yes. Were they native to that area? Yes. Is the name mocking them or a tribute to them?
I've always looked at sports team names as tributes to things that represent the people in that community. Stuff they love.
Granted, I'm not sure Redskins fits that criteria, sorry Catt! But, every other one I can think of does, right?
Also, I stand by what I said about the shirt being pointed at a specific group instead of another. Had there been a line of shirts with different ethnicities represented, fine. Focusing one one? Kinda racist.

I continue to disagree on the racism of the parody shirt, but I have nothing else more persuasive to say. Â As to the final point about how picking caucasians instead of others makes it racist, I would respond that since the team is owned by caucasians it is a necessary complement to the message that is portrayed by replacing the feather with a dollar sign.
If they had gone with "crackers" instead, that would indicate a more malicious tone and start to be more racist.
As to the name Indians I would agree that it's not as racist as Redskins. Â The name isn't completely untarnished, but it's Chief Wahoo that takes it too far. Â That and the tomahawk chop and fans going to the game in redface. Â Yeesh.
EDIT: I mean, imagine if they were the Cleveland Blacks and had a sambo face for the symbol. Â And at the games fans would wear blackface and do gangster-gun-fingers for moral. Â Those elements are on par, but put it all together and there would be a shit storm.
