QUOTE Marijuana smoke actually has worse effects on vascular function than cigarette smoke in animal studies, and smoking pot, like e-cigarettes, is often a gateway for young people to start smoking cigarettes, he said. In fact, hold the fuck on. Â Of all the people I know that smoke bud, the majority don't smoke cigarettes. That includes me.

Colorado bureaucrats fuck over vets. QUOTE The state Board of Health voted 6-2 Wednesday against adding PTSD to the list of ailments eligible for treatment with medical marijuana. It came despite a recommendation from Colorado's chief medical officer and a panel of physicians.
Board members cited a lack of research, including medical trials.
"We have an absence of scientific information," board member Rick Brown said.
Marijuana is illegal under federal law, and some scientists say research has been stymied by government hurdles, including a declaration that marijuana is a controlled substance with no accepted medical use. Assholes.
QUOTE One physician recently awarded a state grant to study marijuana use by veterans testified that PTSD sufferers are already using pot to treat their symptoms. Yeah, but fuck those veterans. We have old, shitty, anti-Mexican and anti-black laws to uphold from the '20s and can't be bothered trying to practice medicine.

Legalized bud does NOT contribute to an increase in teen use. Choke on it, DEA ass-wipes.

QUOTE But Malcolm, even though use hasn't risen, legalization has lead to massive amounts of wrongthink! QUOTE However, while marijuana use may not have surged, there has been a relatively sharp decline in the number of youngsters who think regular cannabis use is harmful. Those fuckers. Â They should be getting wasted on legal drugs and getting cirrhosis like the rest of us. Â They obviously must be thrown in jail and subjected to reeducation.

Antidepressant declared worthless for adolescents. This shit is way safer than psilocybin, MDMA, and other hallucinogens.

QUOTE Company blatantly ignored study info back in the day. QUOTE Taking a closer look at the original study’s data, made public from a 2004 court settlement, the new study’s authors found the original had mislabeled critical side effects like suicidal behavior as “emotional lability,” allowing the drug to slide through safety standards even though some of its test subjects had contemplated killing themselves. Further warping the study’s results, according to the new report, were one of the authors’ “undisclosed financial conflicts of interest” and the fact that the final draft was written by a medical ghostwriter. I trust drug companies less than street dealers.

In fairness to drug companies, they aren't actually worse than street dealers. They're typically right on the same moral level.

Oh, sure, the drug companies can be a lot more dangerous. But that motto applies pretty equally to both groups.

QUOTE In 2002 alone, over 2 million prescriptions were written for children and teens... No pusher has a clientele of 2M individual sales every year unless you're talking cartel gods.  They aren't funding studies to say their shit is safe. QUOTE Count this as shocking but unsurprising, for GSK has been admonished and fined many times since 2001, including once for $3 billion, for exaggerating Paxil’s safety and marketing it improperly for use in adolescents. ... As Carey notes in his Times story, thousands of children, teens, and young adults attempted or committed suicide while on Paxil—but it’s impossible to know how many, if any, did so because of Paxil. The Medellin dudes just need to incorporate so they're less penalized for all the people they kill with their ODs.

Head of DEA is demonstrably stupider than the people he unnecessarily jails. QUOTE Herbal cannabis is not medicinal and should not be classified as such, according to public statements made recently by US Drug Enforcement Administration Director Chuck Rosenberg.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Rosenberg acknowledged that constituents in the plant possess “great promise” as potential therapies. But he dismissed the notion of the plant itself as medicinal. “That is a joke,” he said. You'll notice they're not calling him Dr. Chuck Rosenberg. Hilariously, the FDA disagrees with him, as does anyone with an IQ north of a single digit.

Extract shows some hope for treating epilepsy in kids. Is it a panacea? Hell, no. But it's got significant enough effects that you can't have a single IQ point and call it a Schedule I substance.

A black box THC "breathalyzer." QUOTE Lynn wouldn’t discuss the actual chemistry, saying that it was “proprietary.” Seems legit ... except for:
QUOTE “Typically, if you have five nanograms in a regular smoker, you probably won't see any behavioral effects,” said Carl Hart, a professor of psychology and psychiatry at Columbia University. “Whereas, with five nanograms in someone who’s never smoked, you might see a lot of effects.” So there's tolerance.
QUOTE With breath, Lynn explains, the THC signal only sticks around for a few hours. Some studies have found that THC stays on a person’s breath for as long as four hours. The company doesn’t yet know if the breathalyzer can detect if someone ate a marijuana product recently. Wow, then there's the window of time here which is 75% well after the effects of any combustible THC you'll find.  If you take a hit and feel much an hour later, goddamn, you found some nice product.
QUOTE Hart expressed skepticism about the idea behind the technique, calling it a “dumb idea.” “The chemistry of alcohol is such that there is essentially no blood-brain barrier for alcohol … so what is in your lungs or blood is the same amount, typically, as what’s in your brain,” he said. “With marijuana or any other drug, we can’t do that. We have no idea what's in the brain based on some measure in your mouth or in your lungs.” He said the THC doesn't transport itself along the blood-brain barrier like alcohol, so what’s in the breath probably doesn't represent what’s in the brain. Then there's that pesky chemistry.
QUOTE The company doesn’t yet know if the breathalyzer can detect if someone ate a marijuana product recently. Allow me to answer.  No fucking way.  Not without sampling their stomach contents or taking blood.
This all sounds like something which is well worth pursuing, unlike the massive upswing in prescription opioid ODs in the last decade.
In other news, Columbia says fuck the US government's drug policy. QUOTE Colombia has long been identified with U.S.-backed policies to eradicate narcotics production and a sharp decline in levels of violence over the past 15 years is largely attributed to the no-tolerance policing.
Proponents of the new approach say as many as 400,000 Colombians suffering from epilepsy and other ailments could benefit from the clearer regulatory framework. Suck a dick, DEA, and fuck your Schedule I.
