Bought this off steam last (even though it has Tages DRM) because I read that it was a pretty good game and was similar to Dwarf Fortress (only really really good graphics, islands, and no fantasy related stuff)

Played it for a few hours last night, It's pretty fun so far, kind of like a very in debth Sim City.

I'm just playing the campaign, an even that gets very complicated, very quickly. I can tell that the instant play mode probably has a TON you can do.

Oh as a note, if you happen to check screen shots of it on a site like IGN the game really looks that good... it's fucking gorgeous.

Very well detailed, the islands totally look alive.

I dove in with the same attitude that Troy shows above.

After about the 4th stage of the campaign, though, I was like - wtf?  This is just boring rinse/repeat.

So I tried the non-campaign mode, hoping competitive interaction with NPCs would make the game more fun.

The game requires MASSIVE amounts of land per player.  So, yeah, maybe in a week I would have gotten to interact with them on a significant basis, but instead I was just bored off my ass.

4/10

The game has potential, it just... gets tedious.  On the other hand, if you enjoy DF, then maybe you can handle the tedium.  I'm more of a macro guy - I want to be able to set a course, and have things go that way, and jump in on small things only when they matter.

I'll try to give it an honest assessment in a week or so...

But yeah, unless you enjoy DF, you probably won't enjoy this game, and backwards.

Still working through the campaign, I did a few hours last night.

At the end of the evening I quick started to see what that would even look like.

It seemed pretty cool, all four players start with ships right next to each other in the middle of the map, and off they go.

I noticed you could change pretty much all the settings, like map size and difficulty, which seemed neat.

Didn't actually get to do it in practice though, and I still need to do the campaign as I don't "get" everything yet.
