What size hard drive do you have and how full is it?

Debating on if I should pick one of the discounted 20GB up or wait since I really don't need it yet and get the slight more expensive 60GB system to come out later.

How will you use your X-Box?

If you plan to download/purchase music, games, movie trailers, etc. from X-Box live then you need to get the 60GB model.

If you plan to just play video games and you'll occasionally delete older save game files, then you can get an X-Box with the 20GB HD.

I'm pretty sure I have the 20 GB and have had it since the 360's launch, and I don't think I'm at 5GB yet.

20GB.  I think I have 12GB free.  Which is almost exactly where it started out.

I stream video/etc from my home server, and only use the HD to store Rock Band songs and saved games.  So I can't imagine I'd ever fill it.  I don't game a lot, though.

My main use will be to copy games to the HD so I only have to use the DVD on start up.

I will also buy some games like Carrcassonne and Ticket to Ride but I don't think I will be a big time arcade player.

Can you delete Live games from your HD but still own them or would you have to rebuy them to play them again.

I'm pretty sure the 20GB will be enough but wasn't sure if there was anything I was overlooking. Plus $50 bucks for 40 more GB seems kind of expensive.

Won't they just let you plug in an external USB hard drive when you need more space?

I don't pay that much attention to the hardware side of gaming but I don't think so.

Also I believe the current Premiums have the newest chipset but have either of you had the red ring of death?

It cracks me up that Microsoft is sticking with charging X-Box gamers for Windows Live. I mean, it is such a smack in the face to their core consumers.

They tried it with the PC and have finally conceded it was a stupid move, thus Windows Live is now free for PC users.

I know Sony's PS3 service is free to their consumers. I think the Wii one is too?

Now that Sony has finally entered the console race, thanks especially to the Blue Ray victory in the DVD format war, and the Wii is now #1 in console sales, how does Microsoft justify that additional cost to its consumers?

(Besides the obvious greed.)

Goodness, how inconvenient to not be able to incrementally upgrade what is basically a stripped-down PC.

Rumors are that it is getting close to being free. Many users are reporting that they are now allowed to play online games with their silver accounts.

There are reports that since the playstation network is still lagging behind that MS is saying that the across the board friends lists and a bunch of other stuff makes it worth the $50 a year but that as soon as sony gets its act together Live will be free to play games on and the $50 gold membership will give you dedicated servers for games and some other bonuses.

I can see why some would pay because the alternatives with the consoles are terrible but that won't last forever.

The Wii doesn't have much of a centralized service, except for the store.  But even with that it's more like a P2P console network with the store as a supernode.

Shacknews confirmed the news with Microsoft which ultimately means that anyone who owns Universe at War, Shadowrun or Lost Planet: Colonies Edition on the Xbox 360 can play multiplayer online against 360 and PC Live members with a free Silver Xbox Live account. The catch being that this free Xbox 360 cross-platform gaming is more of a promotion and will only last until the rollout of the Fall update later this year. So, if you're part of the Silver crowd, own 360 versions of any of the games listed above and have the urge to play online, you better enjoy it while it lasts. Your freeloading time is limited.

You know what's monumental bullshit?

I'm a silver member and couldn't get roster updates for Madden unless I signed up for Gold.

Microsoft can go fuck themselves. That's extortion.

Let me add, that I never signed up for Gold to get the roster updates. I just did them all manually, at least what I could. Michael Vick was still in the league, which was really annoying.

I'd love to see the number of PC people who actually purchased Gold.

I'm guessing less than 10.

I mean seriously, what the fuck was Microsoft thinking? Are they that desperate for cash?

They've completely abandoned their PC gamer consumers and to top it off they try to charge them for stuff that's free everywhere?

Are the suits that stupid at Microsoft or that greedy?

Possible price drop next month

$50 for each model.  So the 60GB would be $299.

Do any of you have any friends in your Xbox Live silver accounts. I can see where it would have benefits for gold members but does adding people to a friends list do anything for silver members?

That matches up with the new chipset and motherboard they are introducing.

They only thing is that they discount the 20GB model $50 and then make a 60GB model which is $50 more then the 20GB and then turn around a couple months later and lower the 60GB price? Doesn't seem worth pissing off a bunch of people for just a couple months of extra profit.

I have a friend who is a gold member, but he mainly just annoys me with emails.

The only benefit to being a gold member that I see is being able to multi and update the rosters of your sports games.

That being said, Microsoft can go fuck themselves. I'm playing TF2 nightly and Valve isn't asking me to pay a fee for it. Not to mention that ANY game I buy for the PC gets official patches and updates free of charge. If a company decided they didn't want to update rosters free, I guarantee player made roster updates would appear for free all over the web.

I just got an XBox 360 Elite from Dell for $310 with tax.  (assuming it ships tomorrow, seems likely so far).

I'm not entirely sure if I need it, though.
