What's the best ORIGINAL music ever in a game?
That eliminates Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Journey's game, that game in the 80s/90s with Beethoven's music, etc.
I believe Portal's "Still Alive" and Red Alert's "Hell March" have to top the list. I can't think of anything else.

I recall Full Throttle having a heavy metal song. Don't remember the band and don't know if it was exclusive to the game or they released it on an album as well. But I think the song was written for the game.

Duke Nukem theme.... RA's "Hell March..." if we're talking MEMORABLE music, Mario Brothers.
Prey had a full orchstral score, but I think my fave music from any game ever was the eastern-influenced strings from HOMEWORLD.
Fun side-fact I learned recently:
Homeworld was originally going to be a Battlestar Galactica game, but they could not acquire the license, so they made an original back story.
The new Battlestar Galactica series borrowed heaily from the mood and style of the game HOMEWORLD. Especially in season 1; the music, camera angles, and ship formations could be exactly from the game.
A TV show that inspired a game that inspired a TV show. Cool.
Homeworld.
"Karan S'Jet was the last person to leave the mothership." I tear up just thinking about it.

Yeah, Homeworld's soundtrack was pretty bad ass, but was it made for the game specifically? I remember Yes having created it...?

Zork : Nemesis or The 7th Guest.
The organ-heavy opening theme to Return to Zork also kicked ass.

Hell, the Planescape soundtrak was decent. For that matter, so was Icewind Dale II.
& yes, The 7th Guest was friggin' awesome. I never did beat that game, though. I think one of the puzzles was bugged or something. Whenever it'd get beat, the game would crash.

I like the Square Enix stuff from the latter Final Fantasy titles and spin-off series like Kingdom Hearts. Good music there.
