Well, according to everyone, Driv3r is nowhere near as good as the GTA3 series, but seeing it on sale preplayed, I decided to give it a shot. I will continue to update as I play more and more, but the first two missions make me feel like I'm on a short-ass leash. You are given specific missions with only one way to solve them and only one way to go on the road so far, following other cars. So far I'm in the 4 out of 10 range, but I'll keep updating as I get further along.

Played, played quite a bit. And I have one question, were 70's cars really this loose in corners? By gods, these things are sloppy! But back to the game. The graphics, to me, are uninspired, about as good as GTA:VC and the like. Your choice of cars is about as limited but the out-of-car experiences are waaaay below par. Boring even, you shoot things just so you can get to some point so you can get back into a car.
Cruising around the city out of career mode is actually entertaining and I spent the majority of my time doing so. The cops are actually interesting at times, if you slam into another motorist and drive off, the cops will race to the scene and...well...stand around. Speeding can get you in trouble, running lights can get you in trouble, it's pretty decently executed there. Just DONT GET OUT OF THE CAR. If you do, find another ASAP.
3 out of 10, the 3 is only for the free cruising around.

I heard very bad things about this game.
I actually asked about it at EBGames when it was first out and the two guys working the counter told me they were big fans of the first two in the series, but this one was to be avoided like the plague.
This game also represented serious backlash in the gaming press as a few mags and/or websites that do reviews to mass audiences were found to have taken bribes from Atari execs to give this game a good review.
I guess they found it hard to justify their 9.5 out of 10 stars reviews when the game was being blasted by legit press as being horrible and buggy.

Oh and it is. I was once taking out a cop against a wall with an 18wheeler cab. I backed up, got a good run and plowed into the cop, which was hard against a wall. Next thing I know, my 18 wheeler is nose up about 200 ft in the air....sooo wierd. Oh yeah, and it ended saying I died.
