No news here, just talking about my upgrades.
I got an itch last night and traded in my Playstation 2, X-Box, Gamecube, and Game Boy Advance SP and a couple of old games for an X-Box 360 Premium system. I bought a copy of NCAA Football 07 to go with it.
First of all, the new X-Box is pretty cool. Unless Sony's product gives you a hummer while you play, I'm not sure how they can justify charging $200 more for their concole.
Signing up for X-Box Live was simple and free so I did that upon booting up for the first time. I also found out that the 360 doesn't require you to buy additional stuff to run DVDs like the previous generation of consoles.
NCAA Football 07 is ok right now, but I did see a problem with turnovers. I started as Air Force (I want to evenutally get hired into Ohio State) and in the first two games I got sacked 16-17 times and turned the ball over about 10 times. That's pretty unrealistic, especially for a team that isn't THAT horrible.
Today I'm running to Best Buy with $210 in Best Buy reward zone certificates and I'm getting the Nintendo DS to replace the Game Boy Advance SP. I'm anxious to get the new Advance Wars game (LOVE this series), the WarioWare DS game, Super Mario Bros and Animal Crossing for my wife, plus the two "Brain" games.
At EBGames when I turned in my consoles for the store credit to get the 360 I did some chating with the guys on duty about the gaming industry and got a few nuggets:
-Saint's Row has been completely under my radar being an X-Box game and all, but the guys there went nuts telling me about it. The description I got from one of the employees was: "It's a blatant rip off of Grant Theft Auto, but it's better in every way." He said he played the demo for 8 hours... Another customer happened to overhear us and confirmed its awesomeness.
-The PSP isn't doing all that great meaning Nintendo is still the king of handheld gaming. Apparently, Sony tries to compare their numbers to Nintendo's, however they are going by Nintendo's actual sales and their own units shipped. Shipped and Sold are two vastly different things.
So overall, I'm getting the latest and greatest handheld system and the latest and greatest console system plus a few games for approx $100. Not bad.
Oh, and I'm mentioning this last, I'm also getting Dead Rising today for X-Box. I'm not waiting for a review because it's Dawn of the Dead as a game. Run around a mall and kill Zombies. Kick fucking Ass.
Penny Arcade talks a lot about it today, including basing today's comic on the game.
