Does it need to go? Â As far as my FPS UI shit list goes, excessive HUD-iness is #2 behind "over the shoulder camera view." Â I'm looking at you, Gears of War franchise. Then again, it even kind of gets on my nerves in Fallout 3.

Nah, until the system can demonstrate to me my health levels through direct pain induction, then I want a big flashing red health bar to direct me attention to the fact that I am almost dead. Not some tiny easy-to-miss wrist watch or something.
Until there are other means besides the visual to bring your attention to important information like how dead you are, big HUD elements have their place.
