The sequel to this game.
To save myself a lot of typing, if you want to know how this game plays, click the link above and read what I wrote there. Same shit, different location.
As for the story, stop me if you've heard this before (Seriously, I hope Gordon is reading this...): An engineer with no combat training survives a terrible situation aboard a space vessel when it was infested with alien creatures who kill their hosts and use them to create new monsters. He was the only survivor, and now finds himself in the exact same situation thanks to evil corporations who are trying to control the monsters.
Yeah. It's amazing they haven't been sued. Â (By the way, I didn't realize it previously, but EA published this game. Glad I waited until it was $5.)
Ok, there's some shit about his ex, but honestly her lines were so garbled I barely understood a word she said the entire game.
The problem, aside from the "sameness", is that the game seems to drag. This is magnified due to the slow pace of the story, and the fact that when story bits do happen they last for about 10 seconds.
Also, there's a bit towards the very end of the game that, simply put, gets fucking stupid. Here's a hint: If you make your game seem tougher by making ammo kind of scare, sticking in an unkillable monster that chases you constantly, and the only way to stop him for 30 seconds is to shoot him to pieces, well, that's just stupid, gimmicky bullshit.
Oh, two more things: -There is a bug right before the ending that allows you to upgrade everything you haven't upgraded yet. I think it might be intentional because the game has been out forever, and they haven't fixed it? -I reached the end boss fight and it took me exactly three shots to win. Three shots. I didn't even move. Not a single step.
So if you played the first one and liked it, you'll get more of the same.
Apparently, they're making a third one, which I just assume will put Isaac on a prison planet.

Final scene of the first game had you wearing just your underwear and you slowly had to slip into a space suit and then trick the alien in positioning itself above a hatch so you could blow it out into space.
True story.
Or I might have made that up.
I always thought Half-Life's head crabs were an homage to Alien, while this entire series is just a ripoff of every aspect of Aliens.
The more I think about this game, the worse the story gets, and honestly, poor sound is a BIG part of the reason why. Kind of important to actually understand what people are saying if you want to advance the plot.
There's a male character in the game that your character stresses over and over how important he is, and how he must stay alive, and by the time you occupy the same space as him, well he's gone in about 5 seconds. In other words, the writers added some random just as a plot device to drive you forward, and then when crunch time hit, they had no real explanation for him.
Also of note, I just realized that two of the other "key" boss fights ended in exactly one shot.
And again, it's still an entertaining game, with legit scares, but I think with some actual effort it could be phenomenal.
