Picked this up yesterday on steam. Wasn't really cheap, but I was in an impulse buy mood.

On the 3/4 difficulty it gets hard as shit, really, really fast. I never take a squad back without someone horribly melted, and a few times It was much worse than that.

I never actually played the original, but this new version clearly had some good financial backing, the engine used reminds me of turn based Dawn of War 2.

It's pretty fun though, and it seems to be pretty deep. There is even a cool base building/viewing screen.

Since you never played the original I will tell you not to worry about people dying. In Enemy Unknown and Terror from the Deep even on the easiest settings you lost lots of troops on every mission until you started getting better armor. Then you just lose some troops.

The general rule for the game is don't even worry about remember names or skills of certain troops until they reach the rank of sergeant and even then you are probably wasting your time.
